SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position will be responsible for dispatching vans and other chauffeured passenger vehicles, scheduling and general office duties. Driving a chauffeured passenger vehicle may be required, as needed.

 
Position Requirements

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  1. Meet all general qualifications for employment.
  2. Meet company and state standards for driving record check.
  3. Meet company, state, and school district standards for criminal history check.
  4. Meet state physical examination requirements.
  5. Pass drug and alcohol screening as established by company.
  6. Successfully pass Dean Transportation Training Program, including:
    1. Classroom instruction
    2. Behind the wheel instruction
    3. Written and driving tests
  7. Meet state requirements for appropriate vehicle licensing.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Answer phone calls to maintain effective and timely communication between passengers, drivers and other Dean Transportation staff.
  2. Dispatching to chauffeur drivers electronically to ensure schedules are met and assigned routes are on time.
  3. Receive and communicate changes and/or any problems that may occur with vehicles while they are on the road.
  4. Assist with coordination of staffing and paperwork.
  5. Assist walk-in visitors in the dispatch office.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES (WHEN APPLICABLE)

Reservation Specialists may be required to drive a chauffeured passenger vehicle when needed. Responsibilities for driving a chauffeured vehicle include:

  1. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of your assigned vehicle as required.
  2. Instruct passenger riders regarding safety.
  3. Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
  4. Drive with safety of passengers as first priority.
  5. Establish favorable working relationships with drivers, office and maintenance personnel and passengers.
  6. Achieve self-improvement by attending training sessions, annual in-service, and workshops conducted by Dean Transportation and/or other approved agencies.

SPECIFIC ABILITIES

  1. Demonstrate effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency with computers, multi-line phone systems and office equipment.
  4. Demonstrate an excellent attendance record.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  6. Operate all vehicles in transporting passengers used by Dean Transportation.
  7. Identify with geographic service area and routes assigned to the local Dean operation.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal agencies.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of state laws and local ordinances.
  10. Deal with exuberant behavior characteristics of passengers.
  11. Administer disciplinary procedures with passengers in keeping with company policies.
  12. Be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies and day-to-day operations.
  13. Keep accurate records and reports as required, submit in a legible condition, and turn in at the specified time.
  14. Conduct yourself as a professional Dean Transportation staff member at all times.
  15. Operate all vehicle lifts as prescribed in company policy.
  16. Secure all equipment that is required for each passenger as prescribed in company policy.
  17. Be able to lift, store, and disassemble/assemble wheelchairs of a maximum weight of 40 pounds and/or other ambulatory devices required by the passenger.

DRIVING PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS                                                                                          

  1. Driving performance evaluations are performed continuously as part of company safety training.

  2. Chauffeured vehicle drivers may be subjected to customized driving evaluations at any time during employment when the company has a specific concern or has received a report of improper driving.

BODY MECHANICS OF A CHAUFFEUR DRIVER                                                                                  

Reservation Specialists may be required to drive a chauffeured passenger vehicle and are required through their employment to perform various physical tasks. These physical tasks require varying degrees of lifting, pulling, bending, and carrying of heavy objects. Some examples of these are:

  1. Opening and closing a vehicle hood and lifting the hood up to perform pre-trip requirements of the engine.
  2. Bending, pushing, and pulling to load and unload a wheelchair, with or without a passenger, onto a lift platform and/or ramp, by exerting a maximum of 40 lb. of push/pull pressure.
  3. Bending, supporting, and otherwise physically helping passengers into and out of vehicle.
  4. Carrying and lifting personal articles/adaptive equipment of various weights/sizes into and from the vehicle.
  5. Bending and stretching for the cleaning and securement of equipment in the interior of the vehicle.
  6. Bend, stretch, pull, and drag all persons, equipment or other types of articles that would be of varying sizes and weight out of vehicle on demand.
