Crisis Response Worker – CALL DIVERSION UNIT (CDU)

Two full-time contract positions (33.75 hrs/wk) to March 31, 2021

One part-time contract (11.25 hr/wk) to March 31, 2021

(with a possibility of an extension)

Day, Evening and Weekend Shifts

The Call Diversion Unit - Crisis Response Worker in collaboration with the York Regional Police Department, work to divert non-emergent mental health and addiction related 911 calls.  In collaboration with York Regional Police, the Crisis Response Worker will review calls for service that involve mental health and/or addiction concerns and other psychosocial issues.  The purpose of the unit is to decrease the non-emergency crisis calls for service for front line officers and reduce the use of these personnel for non-emergency responses.

 
Position Requirements
  • B.S.W. or equivalent education
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Knowledge and practice of short-term urgent response, psychosocial rehabilitation approach and advanced clinical, crisis and assessment skills are assets.
  • Experience working with individuals having a serious mental illness is essential.
  • Crisis skills for adults and children experiencing a mental health crisis
  • Completion of CPI, CPR and ASIST training as per agency guidelines.
  • Experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Knowledge of the local service system is essential
  • Francophone or second language is considered an asset
  • A valid G driver’s license, appropriate insurance for business purposes, and reliable vehicle are required for this position
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a police clearance that meets York Support Services Network and York Regional Police standards
