Lead Mechanic 

Position Fleet Coordinator  

The Landings Association is currently hiring for an experienced Lead Mechanic to be responsible for the coordination and facilitation of vehicle and equipment maintenance activities including inspections, maintenance and repairs of all vehicles and equipment owned and operated by Association.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prioritizes, schedules and performs vehicle maintenance on all TLA-owned vehicles and heavy equipment (ATV/UTV, Street sweeper, Jetter truck, Dump truck, Backhoe, Bucket truck, Loader, Tractor, 4x4 pickup truck and fleet of vehicles as well as boat motors and small engines).
  2. Performs vehicle inspections and routine maintenance checks to include fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and electrical systems.
  3. Changes filters and oil and lubricates equipment.
  4. Replaces spark plugs, PVC valves, fuel filters, air filters, etc.
  5. Diagnoses and repairs for all vehicles and light to heavy equipment including (but not limited to):
    • Internal combustion engines
    • Diesel engines
    • Hybrid electronic engines
    • Heavy equipment
    • Transmissions
    • Anti-lock braking systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Air conditioning and heating systems
    • Steering systems
    • Fuel systems
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Suspensions
    • Changes and repairs tires
    • Installs after-market accessories
  1. Ensures that repairs are performed to industry standards.
  2. Reads and interprets repair manuals and schematics.
  3. Performs minor welding and parts fabrication duties.
  4. Maintains record of maintenance and repairs to all equipment using the fleet management database
  5. Performs service calls in the field.
  6. Maintains inventory control of parts and general supplies.
  7. Keeps the maintenance shop organized and clean to help with inventory, reduce unproductive time and promote safety.
  8. Maintains tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order.
  9. Plans and schedules work to support departmental objectives for cycle time and efficiency.
  10. Assists Environmental Manager with budget preparation and management ensure effective and efficient use of TLA resources.
  11. Work with the Finance Department to maintain records for new assets and disposal of old assets.
  12. Prepares monthly fuel usage monitoring reports showing mileage and fuel usage by vehicle.
  13. Exemplifies personal safety to reduce the potential for accidents to include: use of proper personal protective equipment, following all TLA safety standards, proactively encouraging safe work behaviors in other team members, and reporting immediately all work-related accidents, incidents and near-misses.

Position Requirements

Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behavioral Characteristics Needed

  1. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE’s) G1 and A1 through A8:
    • G1- Auto Maintenance and Light Repair
    • A1 – Engine Repair
    • A2 – Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
    • A3 – Manual Drive Train & Axles
    • A4 – Suspension & Steering
    • A5 – Brakes
    • A6 – Electrical/Electronic Systems
    • A7 – Heating & Air Conditioning
    • A8 – Engine Performance
  2. Proficient in the use of pneumatic tools, power tools, hand tools, tire changer/balancer, diagnostic equipment, vehicle lifts and A/C manifold, TPMS systems
  3. Strong knowledge of gas and diesel engines with hydraulic systems
  4. Basic welding skills
  5. Skill in the reading and interpretation of manuals and schematics
  6. Ability to look up and interpret SDS sheets and produce labels
  7. Ability to maintain accurate fleet records and documentation of work
  8. Knowledge of safety hazards and proper safety practices associated with job responsibilities
  9. Ability to measure chemicals safely and accurately?
  10. Good written and oral communications skills

Minimum Job requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of automotive and heavy equipment repair experience
  • ASEs G1 Auto Maintenance and Light Repair or ability to acquire within 6 months of employment
  • ASEs A1-A8 or ability to acquire them within 3 years of employment
  • Become certified by a GA EPD Certification course for the UST A/B Operator training within 6 months of employment
  • A valid driver’s license with insurability at normal risk rates
  • Ability to work on nights, weekends, holidays and on call in emergency situations as needed
