Summary

This position is specific to maintain the health and safety requirements in relation to COVID-19 throughout an Early Childhood Education Center. This position supports the classrooms, parents, and center leadership in mitigating risk and exposure to COVID-19 while providing a quality learning environment which is developmentally appropriate and actively engages children and parents in the process. 

Facial coverings are required at all times. A split shift is required with one shift in the morning and the other in the late afternoon.

The main responsibilities will include those as a “Runner” as described below. In extreme circumstances, this person may be asked to work in a classroom as an Assistant Teacher.

Essential Functions

Runner Responsibilities

  • Greet parents and children providing a high level of customer service cultivating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere where each child feels safe and secure and can develop a sense of belonging and value.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times.
  • Insure sanitary procedures are followed by all adults and children. 
  • Demonstrate respect for all children at all times. 
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures as required.
  • Employees holding this position may be required to perform other job-related duties as requested.

Assistant Teacher Responsibilities

**At times Assistant Teacher duties may be required in a classroom. The above and below are essential functions included.

  • Provide curriculum opportunities that emphasize the development of children’s thinking, reasoning, decision making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strengthen the children’s sense of competence and enjoyment of learning by providing experiences for children to be successful from their point of view. 
  • Utilize transitions as learning experiences.
  • Present self as a professional ally of parents, establishing genuine empathy for parent/guardians perspectives. 
  • Promote positive relations with parents through formal and informal communications to include daily contact, occasional phone calls and frequent oral and written reports on each child’s progress.
  • Report all suspected cases of child abuse to Site Director and /or the Department of Human Services in Iowa, or the Department of Children and Family Services.
  • Ensure compliance with the Child Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
