Utility Engineer, Academy Museum 

Description

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Utility Engineer will undertake and support a range of routine tasks in the Engineering Department of the Museum. You will inspect maintain, and test various HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety equipment.

You Will

  • Conduct minor maintenance/repair/replacement on HVAC systems; replace filters, check parameters on the BMS and clean HVAC equipment.
  • Support FLS system maintenance and testing (i.e. fire pump testing, Reg-4, Generator, and Smoke evac fans).
  • Clear sewage and storm drains by means of electric drain cleaning machines.
  • Complete minor repairs and adjustments on thermostats, fan coil units, Multiaquas, and VAV units.
  • Troubleshoot lighting and repairs throughout the museum.
  • Clean roof drains, condensate drains, and air vents.
  • Address work requiring the use of hand tools throughout the facility.
  • Replace ceiling tiles not affecting fire sprinkler systems and other energized systems.
  • Clear drains by means of plungers and augers.
  • Paint, patch and clean mechanical, electrical, engineering spaces, and mechanical penthouse.
  • Perform general labor; carry, stack, and sort materials used in engineering spaces.
  • Will work with people from diverse backgrounds.
 
Position Requirements

You Have:

  • 2+ years’ experience in building maintenance as an engineering assistant or maintenance technician.
  • HS diploma or GED and HVAC certificate from a trade school.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Experience with HVAC equipment and minor building repairs, drains, and outlets.
