Summary of Position - Provides the clinical leadership of medical services by diagnosing and treating patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, clinical training, and supervision of psychiatric services. Assures departmental goals and/or objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame by performing the job responsibilities personally or through subordinate staff.

Responsibilities

  • Must be willing to sign a collaborative agreement.
  • Works toward accomplishing and adheres to department/Agency goals, ethical standards and the laws and regulations which govern the overall mental and healthcare industries.
  • Maintains confidentiality and immediately reports to management breaches in confidentiality.
  • Practices job requirements on an accurate, timely and regular basis.
  • Observes and maintains appropriate professional boundaries with clients, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Attends all scheduled meetings as assigned.
  • Meets relevant continuing educational/training requirements.
  • Completes all required documentation/paperwork accurately and within established time-frames.
  • Accurately and on a timely basis completes tasks required by the Agency's time collection system.
  • Fulfills all CPNJ mandatory requirements, as required by CPNJ.
  • Knowledgeable of, and practices the organization's health and safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to fire safety and emergency preparedness, infection control procedures and incident reporting.
  • The organization of medical services provided by the agency center.
  • The organization and participation in clinical training for the staff, as assigned.
  • The assurance of availability of psychiatric services.
  • Organizes data concerning patient's family, medical history, and onset of symptoms obtained from patient, relatives, and other sources.
  • Examines patient to determine general physical condition.
  • Orders laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained.
  • Determines nature and extent of mental disorder, and formulates treatment program.
  • Treats or directs treatment of patient, utilizing variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
  • Participates in the staff privileging process.
  • Must have the ability to conduct a clinical assessment of an individual, family or group.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate and identify mental, emotional, behavioral and/or associated distresses in an individual, family or group.
  • Must have the ability to prepare an assessment and evaluation that establishes goals and objectives.
  • Must have the ability to plan and implement a course of psychotherapeutic counseling to prevent mental, emotional, behavioral and associated distresses which interfere with mental health and development.
  • Must have the ability to plan, implement and evaluation counseling interventions.
  • Must have knowledge of the appropriate tools utilized to perform an accurate assessment and evaluation.
  • Must have the ability to conduct an ongoing case discussion and evaluation focusing on, but not limited to, clinical social work data, clinical goals and treatment plans for the implementation of psychotherapeutic counseling with individuals, families and groups.
  • Must have the ability to conduct intervention(s) with appropriate individuals, family, group and/or entities.
  • Must have the ability to conduct client centered advocacy; the service of providing functions on behalf of individuals, families or groups to bring about or influence change to improve the quality of life, enhance empowerment and assure the basic rights of the client.
  • For Adult Population:
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of adult stages of growth and development.
  • Ability to assess history, assessment, family information, in the context of adult development in formulating diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Ability to engage family members in decision-making related to adult treatment planning.
  • Ability to engage family members in education and treatment according to treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications prescribed for adult populations and their use in treatment.
  • For Child/Adolescent Population:
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of child/adolescent stages of growth and development.
  • Ability to assess history, assessment, family information, in the context of adult development in formulating diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Ability to engage family members in decision-making related to child/adolescent treatment planning.
  • Ability to engage family members in education and treatment according to treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications prescribed for child/adolescent populations and their use in treatment.
 
Position Requirements

Education/Qualifications

Medical degree from an accredited college or university

Must be Board Certified in psychiatry as defined by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Documented knowledge of at least two (2) years work experience with adults with mental illness

Certificates and Licenses:

  • *Must possess a valid New Jersey medical license and have completed a residency in psychiatry
  • Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate
  • Valid State Controlled Substance Administration (CDS) Certificate
  • Valid driver's license required and must be insurable by agency's automobile insurance
