Description

Position Summary:

This position is a full-time, temporary position that will terminate on November 3, 2020 or when the Voter Assistance Hotline project terminates, whichever comes first. The Voter Assistance Hotline is an LA and Orange County program providing information to the callers, and escalating severe issues to the supervising attorney. Under the supervision of a designated supervisor, the Bilingual Hotline Representative is responsible for answering phone calls from community members, conducting in-language information gathering, providing voter information assistance, and assisting supervisors in addressing remaining issues. This position works closely with its assigned supervisor to troubleshoot issues and make decisions. The start date for this position is October 23, 2020.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer helpline calls from low-income, AANHPI language-speaking individuals with voting related questions and issues
  • Respond in language to basic questions about voting rights and voting options over the phone
  • Provide brief service related to voting with the support of a supervising attorney
  • Escalate specific voting-related issues to the supervising attorney, including informing the attorney of all relevant information from the caller
  • Provide in-language support such as interpretation and translation to the supervising attorney dealing with escalated problems
  • Perform administrative duties including but not limited to inputting call information into centralized database
  • Provide written translation of Voter Assistance Hotline materials, as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Verbal fluency in English and either Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, or Thai
  • Dedication to serving immigrant communities and a sincere commitment to working on behalf of low-income immigrants;
  • Strong attention to detail and organized;
  • Comfort with technology tools, such as Google Drive, cloud-based telephone applications, text messaging, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and quickly, under general supervision;
  • Strong preference for applicants with some knowledge and prior experience in a social services environment
  • Requires reliable in-home internet connection, a computer, and a telephone

Working Conditions:

  • This position will be entirely remote. This role routinely uses computers, phones, and reliable access to the internet;
  • There is no travel required for this temporary position;
  • If demands exceed availability for assistance, weekend shifts may be considered if the individual is available

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing duties of this job, the temporary employee is regularly required to talk and listen on a telephone. The employee must be able sit or stand to use a computer and telephone.
