Summary

The Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist will provide training, support (technical assistance), and consultation to licensed family child care homes, licensed child care centers, and license-exempt providers. This position supports providers who want to provide developmentally appropriate care to children 0-3 and assist providers to significantly improve the quality and accessibility of infant and toddler child care. The Infant Toddler Child Care Specialist also supports child care providers seeking to deepen their approach to quality care through the ExceleRate Illinois process of quality improvement.

Examples of Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop working relationships with child care practitioners (centers and home providers) to support them around improving the quality of services to infants and toddlers (birth-3 years)

  • Provide consultation, technical assistance and trainings regarding infant toddler development, brain science and development, positive discipline, designing environments, transitions, routines, communication/relationships-building with parents/guardians and other related topics.

  • Provide consultation, technical assistance and training to providers who are involved with ExceleRate Illinois or have expressed an interest and need support at different stages in the process.

  • Offer resources and information to child care providers in person, via website, phone &/or email.

  • Assist in facilitating cohorts, including those for providers involved in the Quality Improvement funds process, additionally provide training, technical assistance, reflective practice, and on site consultation.

  • Work in partnership with providers and other specialists and agencies to jointly assess and identity infant toddler program needs and concerns.

  • Maintain documentation of the contract related activities through specified data recording, through timely submissions.

  • Meet IDHS requirements for the Infant Toddler position including:

    • Complete required Assessment Scale training over a six-month period, achieving a minimum score of at least 80%.

    • Attend ‘Program for Infant Toddler Caregiver' (PITC) training, achieving certification on all 4 PITC modules

    • Become an Approved Trainer for the Gateways to Opportunity Registry (within 12 months of employment)

    • Achieve Gateway Credential ECE Level 5 and ITC Level 4 (within 18 months of employment)

  • Attend required meetings, work days and events locally and sometimes statewide.

  • Overtime may be required.
