Summary

McFarling Foods is in search of an experienced HR Generalist who will be responsible for applying business knowledge and human resources expertise. The HR Generalist will assist in providing a wide range of HR support and advice. The successful candidate will play a key role in the success of the organization by offering guidance on recruitment, terminations, performance management, employee relations and HR best practices while facilitating a positive relationship between personnel and senior management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

  • Attract top talent for our organization by maximizing internet resources, networking, social media, and other creative methods of sourcing candidates.
  • Responsible for recruitment; prepares job descriptions/postings and places recruitment ads; works with staffing agencies to identify qualified candidates for open positions; coordinates interviews.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with employment agencies to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates.
  • Develop and maintains standardized job descriptions and interview guides.
  • Maintains internal applicant databases; prepares and maintains various reports and spreadsheets.
  • Offer proactive recruiting assistance.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Identify and develop ways to improve policies and procedures.
  • Maintain employee handbook.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Develops human resources solutions by collecting and analyzing information; recommending courses of action.
  • Helps to monitor the organization's culture so that it supports the attainment of the company's goals and promotes employee satisfaction.
  • Assists with the company-wide committees including the wellness, training, environmental health and safety, and social committees.
  • Assist in benefit management and coordinate annual open enrollment.
  • Manages “full cycle” Workers Compensation program.
  • Manages and tracks FMLA, Short Term Disability and medical leaves.
  • Administers the 401(k)-plan bi-annual open enrollments.
  • Assist with training and development and vendor selection.
  • Complies with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (AD), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, workers compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
  • Protects the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company Human Resources policies and governmental laws and regulations.
  • Files EEO-1 report annually; maintain other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations. Tracks personnel transactions; such as, hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting, which includes tracking applicant data.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Organizational/HR Development or related field; and 5+ years related experience and/or training; Master's degree in business, preferred.
  • Passionate about Human Resources.
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong knowledge of the hiring processes.
  • Understanding of HR best practices and current regulations.
  • Ability to develop and maintain HR dashboard.
  • Prior distribution, warehouse, manufacturing experience required.
  • Project management experience, preferred.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast pace environment.
  • Keen ability to research HR issues and laws.
  • Superb computer literacy with capability in email, MS Office and related HR software.
  • Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of affirmative action programs is preferred.
  • Ability to protect organization's value by keeping information confidential; use discretion and best judgment.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Malicious attention to details, highly organized, multi task and able to prioritize.
  • Remarkable organizational and conflict management skills and enjoy working in a fast paced environment
  • Strong decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Must have high initiative, integrity, strong work ethic, excellent verbal/written communication and analytical skills.
  • Able and willing to work well in a diverse environment.
  • Positive personality is a must.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interface with all levels of staff and management.
  • Works comfortably under pressure and meets tight deadlines.
  • High degree of flexibility, organization, and self-motivation.
