JOB SUMMARY

As an integral part of the Human Resources team, the Human Resources Generalist – Benefits and Leave serves as a strategic business partner to management and employees of YWCA Minneapolis with a focus on assigned business units. 

Overall areas of responsibilities will include employee relations, benefits administration, leave of absence administration, and compliance. Manage day-to-day operations of the HR Department and serve as a lead in driving high-performance culture that emphasizes mission and empowerment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Employee Relations

  • Develops and sustains proactive relationships with assigned business partners.
  • Provide counsel, support and coaching to managers and supervisors regarding policies, employee performance, progressive counseling, compliance and other employee matters.
  • Functions as a neutral contact for internal concerns/complaints brought forward by employees or managers, investigates and in collaboration with Director of Human Resources, recommends remedies.
  • Interprets and communicates policies and procedures to managers and employees to ensure fair and consistent practices.

Benefit and Leave Administration

  • Delivery and administration of Human Resources services related to benefits: Medical, Dental, Life and Disability, FSA, Health Risk Assessments, and Retirement Fund, etc.
  • Administration and management of organizational leave policies and appropriate local, state and federal leave of absences.
  • Interprets benefit policies and procedures and monitors compliance with appropriate laws and regulations.
  • Recommends and develops communication strategies to increase participation and enhance understanding of benefit options.
  • Assist employees with benefit questions and concerns.
  • Administration and monitoring for ACA reporting and compliance.
  • Develop and deliver the annual Open Enrollment of Benefits and coordinating. benefits processes with third party vendors.

Other

  • Creates and maintains accurate and updated HRIS employee records.
  • May lead, develop and compile reports relating to HR activities (EEO, compliance, etc)
  • Participates on internal committees meetings and professional development training as assigned.
  • Works with HR team in the development and implementation of plans and strategies.
  • Support other Human Resources staff in HR functions such as recruitment, talent development, employee relations support, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Human Resource Director who reports to the Chief Executive Officer.  The incumbent will interact with employees from all levels of the organization.  Critical relationships will include Sr. Leadership, Operations Managers, Finance, and IS.  Collaborate with other Human Resources staff to implement compliance within the organization. 

 
Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource or business related.
  • Must possess a minimum of two years of HR experience in a capacity of benefits and leave administration.
  • Must possess a minimum of two years of HR experience in employee relations and support of organizational business units.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Excel, Word, and Power Point. 
  • Must have strong knowledge and understanding of Human Resource concepts and employment laws.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate ability to protect confidential information. 
  • Excellent leadership and management skills. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. 
  • Must be comfortable in dealing with significant levels of ambiguity. 
  • A customer service mindset with the ability to build strong relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using sound judgment that is consistent with employment law, HR best practice and YWCA Minneapolis policies.
  • Ability to work with a variety of cultures, backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Understand and have a willingness to learn the YWCA of Minneapolis business units.

Preferred:

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification
  • Knowledge and experience with Ascentis HRIS.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time
  • Travel to various YWCA of Minneapolis sites.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: This job description represents the major functions but is not intended to be all-inclusive.  

Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Disability and Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, and 403(b) Tax Sheltered Account, as well as, PTO. After two anniversary years (1,000 hours each year) of employment, employees who are eligible will be automatically enrolled in the YWCA Retirement Fund.

Salary: The salary range for this position is $47, 040 - $58, 000 (depending on qualifications)
