Job Summary

Under the direction of a licensed care practitioner, the Chair and clinic manager this position is responsible to perform with a high level of independence. The Sr/Lead. MA will lead the MA staff by guiding work flow, scheduling, develop processes and training staff. In the role of Medical Assistant Lead, this position assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician within the scope of their education and training, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Additionally the Sr/Lead MA acts as a mentor to Level I and Level II medical assistants and may be responsible for orientation and development of new staff. This position will be competent in the use of the electronic medical record system, with the ability to train staff on its use as well as monitor progress. All other duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from recognized school for Medical Assisting
  • Experience: minimum of five years performing medical assisting duties
  • Credentialed as a Medical Assistant in good standing with a national organization from one of the following:
    • American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA),
    • American Medical Technologist
    • National Healthcareer Association
    • National Center for Competency Testing
    • Current ABR-OE through the AAMA.
  • One year demonstrated leadership experience or demonstrated teaching/training MA’s preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy with ability to teach electronic medical records use.
  • Current State Laboratory Certification if collecting and/or handling specimens.
  • Current CPR certification.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of electronic medical records and order entry.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures.
  • Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA laws and regulations and ability to follow confidentiality policies.
  • Knowledge of current medical assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drugs.
  • Ability to train staff in procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to lead staff to ensure patient safety and positive performance outcomes.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Working knowledge of medical database computer programs and basic Microsoft office products.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical concepts and interpret measurements.
  • Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction.
  • Skills to implement good safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed.
  • Skills to operate a computer, use internet resources, and to effectively work in the electronic medical record.
  • Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skills to plan and implement training plans.
  • Ability to use and train others on the electronic medical record system.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and HIPAA regulations and its applicability in healthcare.
  • Ability to operate common office and medical equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
  • Skills for strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills.
