    As the Content Director for Med Device Online (MDO), you will identify and build relationships with subject matter experts - and help them publish content about the development and maufacturing of innovative new products for a constantly changing healthcare environment.
  3. VertMarkets, a B2B content marketer and analytics leader, is seeking an editor to solicit, manage, edit, optimize, tag, and share original content of value to MDO’s target audience. The successful applicant will be intrigued by business and technology and will be able to understand and develop content on topics that can at times be very technical.

As the Content Director for MDO, you will:

1. Manage and grow our contributed content offering on MDO.

  • Work with business development team to determine target article topics, contributor profiles, and appropriate volume of coverage by topic.
  • Identify and connect with industry experts — through social media, industry events, PR firms, etc. — who fit the target profiles and can write original articles on target topics.
  • Guide contributors to the article topic, angle, and scope that will provide the highest value to MDO’s readers.
  • Oversee the publication schedule, setting appropriate deadlines for contributors, ensuring they submit all necessary materials (abstract/outline, draft, bio, headshot, images, etc.) on time, and submitting work orders to have the production team post the articles.
  • Edit each contributed article for grammar, adherence with our editorial style guide, general readability, SEO optimization, and reader engagement (e.g., attention-grabbing headlines).
  • Select a feature graphic for each article from our stock image provider.
  • Grow relationships with contributors through regular interaction (email, social media, phone, etc.), to encourage their continued participation.

2. Optimize e-newsletters.

  • Schedule all articles written by contributors for promotion in our email newsletters.
  • Review final newsletter proof, ensuring all content is relevant, recent, grammatically correct, and optimized for performance (e.g., have succinct, compelling headlines).
  • Write copy for newsletters, as necessary.

3. Promote original articles through non-email channels

  • Ensure all articles written by contributors and the editor are seen by as many people as possible in our target audience, via:
    • Social media — LinkedIn (posts and groups), Twitter, etc.
    • Emails or direct messages to specific individuals or small groups.
    • Special placement on website homepages, resource centers, other relevant websites in the Life Science Connect network, etc.

4. Support reader engagement and marketing initiatives for all three websites.

  • Write copy, as needed, for special website promotions, emails, marketing vehicles, social media posts, etc.
  • Select articles to be aggregated into topic-specific e-books.
 
Position Requirements

Required Skills / Education / Experience

  1. High school diploma/GED
  2. 3+ or more years of professional work experience in marketing, communications, editorial, or writing
  3. Technical aptitude (the ability to understand and communicate technical concepts)
  4. Professional presentation
  5. Willingness to interact with sales
  6. Business acumen
  7. Proven examples of hardiness, initiative, critical thinking, and acting with urgency
  8. Capable of starting and maintaining professional relationships
  9. Strong written and oral communicator (including demonstrated phone skills)
  10. Persuasive, influential
  11. Proficient use of: Word, Excel, E-mail, the Internet
  12. Experience hitting goals and deadlines

Preferred Skills / Education / Experience

  1. B.S Degree in marketing/communications, writing/journalism, or related field of study
  2. Five or more years of professional work experience in marketing, communications, editorial, or writing
  3. Experience in the life sciences industry, ideally related to medical devices/diagnostics
  4. Ability to travel up to 10 days per year
  5. Excellent communicator – written and verbal
  6. Willing to give presentations in front of both small and large groups
  7. Proven examples of hardiness, initiative, and acting with urgency
  8. Demonstrates entrepreneurial traits and characteristics
  9. Comfortable in highly structured environment
  10. Demonstrated management or leadership responsibilities
