POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Sports Instructor will be responsible for the planning, directing, managing and implementing of a structured, educational and recreational after school program and evening sports programming for varying school age participants.  The Sports Instructor must possess the ability to work with children and co-workers in a structured setting.  He/She must be able to relate and work with children, parents, off-site school personnel and fellow staff in a mature and sensitive way, consistent with the YMCA philosophy.  The Sports Instructor is responsible for ensuring children safety.    

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Perform all duties in a manner that reflects and models the YMCA character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Ensure the reliability and safety of the after school program site.

Maintain staff/child ratio as set by the Senior Program Director and State of New Jersey licensing regulations.

Insure that all health and safety requirements as described in the YMCA Child Care Risk Management and the Division of Youth and Family Services guidelines are maintained.

Maintain consistent continuing and accurate communication with the Senior Program Director regarding program concerns, supplies, schedule changes, staffing, participant concerns and other pertinent information.

Prepare and implement age-appropriate lesson plans.

Supervise and help with daily set-up and clean-up.

Maintain effective and timely communication with staff and parents regarding program news, changes, illnesses and other necessary information.

Conduct all aspects of the program in a manner consistent with the YMCA philosophy.

Attend all staff meetings as posted by the Family Services Director and/or School-Age Director.

Organize the group and support staff and facilitate emergency procedures.  Fill out accident and incident reports as needed.

Maintain current CPR and First Aid training.

Must be able to pick up paperwork from the YMCARE Office twice a week (before the after school program begins).

Provide a happy, safe and rewarding experience for participants.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:  As per State of New Jersey Licensing Regulations, a Site Supervisor must be at least 18 years old and must have some experience (the number of years vary with education background) to work with the program.

Physical Requirements:  Ability to interact and communicate clearly with all program participants, parents, fellow staff, and the public in a positive and sensitive manner. Ability to provide for the physical and emotional needs of children ages 5-12 years.  Responsible for placement, positioning and operation of all program areas.  Responsible for set-up and breakdown of all program supplies and equipment.

Mental Requirements:  Must be a mature person who is able to conduct the program site and represent the YMCA to the community in a professional manner.  Must have knowledge, understanding, and skills in area of child development.  Must be able to identify and make appropriate alterations to accommodate the changing needs of the program participants and their parents.  The Site Supervisor must be comfortable with and able to function in a professional demeanor regardless of situations that arise.  Must have the ability to organize the group and support the staff and facilitate emergency procedures.  Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and to verbally give instructions in a clear, concise manner, especially with children.

Position Requirements

Shift Details:

Monday - Friday; 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Monday - Thursday: 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Shifts vary depending on season and program offerings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
Previous experience working with children
Experience preferred but not required: In soccer, basketball or volleyball or must possess a strong background in delivering programs
At least 18 years of age
Flexible Hours Available

Payrate $17-$20/HR
