Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum of 1 to 3 years of similar or job related experience in a Mortgage Lending position


  • General knowledge of Windows and Word with good keyboarding skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with ability to follow instructions

  • Excellent telephone manners and techniques

  • Interpersonal skills to represent the financial institutions in a positive way

  • Ability to collect data with strong analytical skills

  • Ability to read legal documents and translate into appropriate operational policies and procedures

  • Ability to use on-line terminals, stand alone PC’s and other standard office equipment such as calculator, copy machine, fax machine, etc.

  • Ability to train employees

  • Knowledge of fundamental mortgage lending concepts and practices, also loan policies, procedures and secondary market loan policies and procedures

  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws governing all facets of real estate lending

  • Knowledge of credit union’s data processing system

  • Must be bondable

  • Must have NMLS Licensing

  • Must have valid Driver's License and/or the ability to travel to meet the job demands



Originate various Mortgage Loan products, obtaining necessary documentation to prepare files for underwriting and the closing of residential and construction loans. Other duties as assigned by the VP Mortgage Lending including assisting in other departments as needed.


The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned from time to time.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow employees, members, board members, and outside vendors.

  • Provide quality service to all members and potential members, recognizing needs, and cross-selling appropriate products and services.

  • Maintain awareness to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related Credit Union policies.Initial and ongoing training will be provided for employees who have personal contact with members, or who have responsibilities to comply with regulations and Credit Union policies.

  • Perform member service duties such as answering phones, greeting members, providing general information on Credit Union products and services, including eligibility for membership, types of accounts, interest rates, current dividend rates, locations, office hours, and telephone numbers.Make a concentrated effort to answer questions and resolve any problems that require research.Direct unanswerable questions to the appropriate department personnel.

  • Interview potential borrowers both on site and off site.

  • Supply borrowers with all necessary and appropriate disclosures, obtain signatures from borrowers for all documents necessary to meet underwriting requirements, to comply with secondary market guidelines; collect application deposit from borrower and forward loan documents to mortgage loan processor, as well as complete the processing of the loan application.

  • Order appraisal and analyze it making sure there will not be any possible problems at the underwriting stage.

  • Maintain contact with the borrower and realtor throughout the lending process performing necessary follow up to ensure a timely loan approval and meet underwriting and closing requirements.

  • Return all phone calls promptly.

  • Order all required documentation such as abstracting, attorney's opinion, survey, and water and/or well test.Review documents upon receipt and clear any problems to ensure a timely first mortgage closing.

  • Collect figures and prepare Settlement Statement and Payout worksheet for mortgage loan closing, and provide documentation to processor for completion of closing documents.

  • Verify all closing, documents prior to loan disbursement for compliance with correspondent's post closing requirements.

  • Maintain good working relationships with attorneys, appraisers, realtors and loan correspondents.

  • Keep abreast of all changes in Federal and State regulations and investor guidelines pertaining to Mortgage lending.

  • Call on real estate builders and realtors; present the Credit Union's Mortgage Loan programs.

  • Assist in the collection and follow up of property tax and homeowners insurance on all Mortgage loans held in servicing portfolios.

  • Guard the confidentiality of members and Credit Union information.

  • Take ownership of and responsibility for the Credit Union's success.

  • Follow through on commitments to members and co-workers.

  • Recognize diversity and respond to members and co-workers as individuals.

  • Set high standards of performance for self and the Credit Union.

  • Follow appropriate fraud prevention and security procedures.

  • Work all operational shifts of the Credit Union, including Saturdays on an as needed basis.

  • Meet or exceed monthly sales goals by reviewing additional opportunities with members by the transaction with a follow-up call.

  • Identify opportunities and cross-sell additional lending products and services using information obtained from the member's application and credit report.
