GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Chief of Development & Outreach is responsible for overseeing fund development and outreach operations for the agency, including daily operations and securing new revenue, either through donations or grants, for strategic initiatives. Oversee the grants and outreach departments. Provide direct supervision and support to the Senior Director of Grants & Research and Director of Community Outreach.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization's values, mission, vision and plans.
2. Develop a five-year strategic plan for the Development Department comprised of the following components: Major Gift Solicitation, Board Giving Program, Events and Grants, Operational Earnings, Other Income - Links & Planned Giving
3. Plan, coordinate and assure implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions in support of the organization.
4. Oversee planning and implementation of fundraising activities and special events, including the annual appeal, online giving, planned giving program, Children’s Champion Award Luncheon, and other campaigns.
5. Provide oversight to the Development & Outreach Department to ensure strategic goals are achieved.
6. Assist Director of Community Outreach with outreach and volunteer initiatives to attract donors and volunteers.
7. Ensure Non-Federal Match (NFM) goals are met for Head Start / Early Head Start.
8. Oversee the completion and submission of grant proposals.
9. Work closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on strategic initiatives to increase the capacity of a growing non-profit organization.
10. Participate in short- and long-term strategic and operational planning for the organization.
11. Serve as a liaison to the Board of Trustees; effectively communicate and present development updates at the Board of Directors and Committee meetings as requested.
12. Ensure accurate record keeping and quality control for donor and volunteer database.
13. Engage with current donors to increase the frequency and amount of donations.
14. Coordinate community events and site tours, as needed.
15. Ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization's values, mission, vision and plans.
16. Maintain accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources.
12. All other duties as requested to maintain the success of ECS.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
• This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field with a proven track record and demonstrated expertise: 5+ years in a senior leadership role

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to be a self-starter, work independently, and perform with little direct supervision
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced, team environment
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, donors, Board members, etc.
• Attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills
• Service-oriented, particularly as it relates to the needs of children and families
• Strong communication skills, both written and speaking; ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and in a heavily diversified work environment
• Ability to maintain confidential information
• Ability to plan, maintain records, analyze data and prepare reports
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Relevant technical skills and knowledge (Raiser's Edge a plus)
• Strong project management skills

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATIONS:
• CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional) within one year of employment
• Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile coverage
• Satisfactory Driving Record (as outlined in Vehicle Driving Policy)
• Complete 15 hours of professional development training per year (July-June)

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
• Works in an office setting
• Overnight and weekend hours as needed to fulfill the requirements of the position

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
• Typical Physical & Mental Demands: Requires prolonged sitting with some bending, stooping and stretching, and eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment.
• Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate with clients and staff.

About the Organization Episcopal Children's Services is a recognized leader in early childhood education serving more than 50,000 children and their families in seven counties in Northeast Florida - Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St John's. In addition, ECS recently became the new Head Start/Early Head Start grantee in Marion, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lake, Levy, and Citrus counties and the Early Head Start grantee in Gainesville. As a result, we now serve another 1,500 children and their families in these areas.
