Share Email Opening Title Certified Orthotist  Category Healthcare Professional Opportunities   Req Number HEA-20-00031   Open Date 11/13/2020   Number of Openings 1   Department Orthotics and Prosthetics  Work type Temporary Full-Time  Grade Grade 6D ($33.63/hr to $42.12/hr)  FTE 1  Posting Close Date 11/27/2020  Description Key Responsibilities Evaluate orthotic needs and requirements of clients (both children and adults) Present opinions and rationale to clients/families and team members Supports and respects the client/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences Responsible for the design, fabrication and fitting of orthoses Able to completely carry out measurement, casting and modification procedures Provide direction to orthotic technical staff Determine most effective orthotic treatment plan, prescription, assess fit of the orthosis and adjust as needed Evaluate gait and assure functional needs and goals of the clients are met Provide education and instruction to the client regarding the proper wear and care of the orthosis Initiate cost estimates for the payment of orthotic devices from ADP and other paying/funding agencies Promote implementation of the highest quality control standards, latest technological developments and evidence-based practices in the field to improve quality of life of clients Document the rehabilitative process in accordance with Holland Bloorview policies and guidelines Provide education to students, visitors and interest groups Participates in quality improvement activities and supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for staff, clients and families Participate in research activities undergoing in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this job. There may be additional duties assigned as required Qualifications Graduate of a recognized Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (OPC) school Canadian Board Certified Orthotist Board eligible Orthotic Residents may be considered Proven ability to effectively address sensitive/complex issues with clients and families Skills related to clinical and technical aspects of orthotic design and manufacture Understand Family Centered Care service delivery model Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines while ensuring quality of orthotic services/products Working knowledge of latest orthotic advancements and technological developments in the field Experience working with children preferred Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary and diverse team Strong and effective organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and time-management skills English language skills required to effectively communicate with colleagues and members of the public Report writing, basic computer skills   About the Organization Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital creates a world of possibility by supporting children and youth with disabilities, medical complexity, illness and injury.
