Manufacturing Engineer  

Description

The person filling this position will be an energetic, self motivated, team oriented, collaborative problem solver able to provide manufacturing support for military and civil avionics electronic hardware. The hardware manufactured at Extant Aerospace is typically legacy airborne electronic assemblies that include complex circuit card assemblies, cable harnesses, custom chassis, removable memory models, and accessories that support military, commercial and the Business/General Aviation markets.

Responsibilities include (other duties may be assigned):

  • Interfacing with Program Management, Product Transition Engineers, and Production personnel in support of the introduction and sustainment of acquired licensed product lines
  • Planning and requesting manpower/equipment/process resources
  • Generating assembly documentation and directing support personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing tasks.
  • Candidate will assist with high visibility manufacturing efforts with formal cost and schedule responsibilities and direct customer interface.
  • Support process improvement initiatives of technical and operational nature.
  • Design and develop manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies, and systems.
  • Plan and support the build and modification of electronics systems including procurement support, assembly method/work instructions generation, tooling design support, material/process development, facilities/equipment planning, and resolution of manufacturing, quality, and reliability issues.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.
  • Support the root cause and corrective action process.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in a technical discipline required; plus 4years industry experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct hands-on experience supporting manufacturing activities related to design and building of electronic assemblies.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in manufacturing of high reliability electronics for military and government systems.
  • Background in developing manufacturing processes and NPI experience.
  • Knowledge of MIL/IPC workmanship and performance standards related to electronic assemblies
  • Good communication skills including the ability to deliver effective presentations to peers, management, and customers in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to find root cause of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, mechanical test failures, etc...
  • Lean 6 sigma certified yellow belt or higher.
  • CAD experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Occasional Domestic and international travel may be required to support business needs.
