About the Organization The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston's first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. The Houston SPCA is a private, non-profit charity, funded entirely by donations, which receives no funding from the Government, United Way or national animal groups.

Description

Primary Purpose:

The Corporate and Foundation Relationship Manager will play a key role in supporting vital aspects of the Leadership Giving Team by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding Corporate and Foundation prospects and donors through donor-centric methodology.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with current and prospective corporate and foundation donors.
  • Provide prospect research and draft proposals.
  • Maintain proposal and grants tracking and draft original grants, proposals, and reports based on donor and prospect deadlines.
  • Obtain program details, budgets, and other required information as needed to solicit prospects.
  • Conduct research on corporations and foundations for prospect activity.
  • Draft acknowledgments and correspondence.
  • Create a comprehensive corporate sponsorship package with recognition and benefits for each giving level. Work with Leadership Giving Team and Executive Leadership to determine potential customized benefits.
  • Assess value of sponsorships by evaluating audience, tracking visibility/impressions, and evaluating impact.
  • Participate in special projects as directed by Senior Director of Leadership Giving.
  • In all areas of responsibility - continuously update primary database of record, Raiser's Edge, with prospect and donor interactions, proposals and other information as required by best practices.
  • Represents the Houston SPCA by providing excellent customer service and focus.
  • Protects all confidential information, including donors, clients, animals and internal communications.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Knowledge, skill and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field is required.
  • 5+ years of fundraising, administrative and management experience is required.
  • Experience working with the corporate marketing sector is required.
  • Demonstrates excellence in organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and drive projects to completion.
  • Demonstrate an ability and eagerness to learn, be resourceful and proactive, adapt to changes and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, anticipate issues and make recommendations in resolving problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work well in a team environment.
  • Must represent the Houston SPCA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, donors, volunteers and staff.
  • Exceptional written, proofreading, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Passion for the mission of the Houston SPCA.
  • Able to drive, stand, bend, squat, walk, and talk for up to eight hours a day; able to lift to 25 pounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and Outlook is necessary.
  • Proficiency in Raiser's Edge and/or EveryAction fundraising databases is a plus but is not required.
  • Experience in writing grants and/or development copy is preferred.
  • Occasional exposure to animals and related issues.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekend and evening shifts.
