Description

Job Summary

This position is responsible to code diagnosis and post all charges generated in the clinics as well as back up the Hospital Charge Poster. Responsibilities include participating in data review to insure clean and timely submission of claims. Responsible for daily feedback to clinics to insure all missing tickets are accounted for and problems are identified. Participates in training faculty and resident physicians the practical skills required in an outpatient setting. Other duties as assigned.

 
Position Requirements

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • One year in a medical office or accounting/bookkeeping position or graduate of trade school or medical school with related coursework.
  • Minimum of one year’s experience working in a medical business office to include payment or claims processing and/or one year’s coding experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of changing regulations for Federal, State and third party payors, including at a minimum Medicare, Medicaid, Out of State Medicaid Programs, Champus, Indian Health Service, , and commercial insurance.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding requirements. Ability to use ICD-10, CPT- 4, and HCPCS coding book.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry, commercial payors, and changing regulations and governmental programs available to public.
  • Working knowledge of computers and other general office machines (i.e. Fax, copier, ten-key, typewriter, telephone).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Good computer skills including MS Office Word and Excel; and, typing 40 wpm.
  • Skills for adequate judgment and decision making, attention to detail, and problem solving.
  • Skills for basic math functions and understand basic accounting functions.
  • Ability to deal with others in a professional manner.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing medical market.
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve.
  • Ability to assist in teaching resident physicians the practical skills required in an outpatient setting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Must have a good command of the English language, verbally and written.
  • Skills to communicate to develop and maintain a good relationship with all departments to ensure smooth transition of information and data.
