Description

Responsible for the leadership of the finance operations of all Crystal entities and development activity including accounting and financial analyses, preparation and compilation of financial reports, budgets and forecasts. Includes the development, execution, and refinement of financial and operational strategy. Responsible for the leadership of the Accounting and Technology Departments. Serves as an Executive Committee member.

 

Strategic Planning

  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting initiatives.
  • Monitor the financial implementation of strategic business plans.
  • Develop financial strategies.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting and budgets.
  • Oversee capex requests and related cash-flow process.
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction and development projects.

 

Operations

  • Oversee resort accounting and financial reporting, the financial aspects of the property management, association management and the development company.
  • Oversee the Director of Information Technology and the direction of the company in key systems technology.
  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive committee.
  • Manage direct reports: Controller, Director of Information Technology and financial aspects of the VP of Property Operations.
  • Develop operational best practices in new businesses and as growth occurs in current operations.

 

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation of all financial reports.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.
  • Oversee the issuance of financial information to third parties.
  • Oversee reporting of financial results to the Board of Directors and quarterly bank reports.
  • Prepare financial analyses for capital decisions and as requested.
  • Provide recommendations for procedural improvements.
  • Assist in establishing short and long-range departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial reporting.

 

Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile.
  • Assist the Director of Risk Management & Safety with issues and incidences as needed.
  • Ensure there is appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies.
  • Report financial risk issues to the Board of Directors.

 

Funding

  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization’s operations.
  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.
  • Invest funds taking into consideration risk and liquidity.
  • Monitor the investment of 401k funds.
  • Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.

 

Development

  • Create financial projections and cash flows for future projects, including their effect on increased operational revenues and expenses, as well as developer profits.
  • Assist in tracking project expense during the development process.
  • Assist in CPI reviews and compilation of financial statements and budgets.
  • Advise VP of Property Operations on Association financial reporting and rental management issues.

 

Technology

  • Advise Technology Director on investments in technology in guest units, as well as in resort operations.
  • Assist in developing the future direction for technology needs of guests and staff.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in strategic executive planning.
  • Represent the company externally to government agencies, auditors, and the general public.
  • Provide accounting policy.

Position Requirements

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting.
  • Advanced computer skills, including knowledge of resort back office and operational systems as well as Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong knowledge of complex financial modeling in Excel.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Results-oriented, strategic thinker and planner.
  • Ability to work on several projects at once with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Outdoor recreation enthusiast (preferably, snow sports, golf, etc.).

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • CPA required. CHAE preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a mid to senior level finance or accounting position. Previous related experience in the hospitality and/or the ski industry preferred.

 

Physical & Other Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and evenings as business needs may dictate. Winter and summer require ability to work Saturday office rotation.
  • Evenings, weekends and holidays are a regular part of the schedule.
  • Non-smoking candidates preferred.
