Community Engagement Coordinator

Description

Primarily responsible for developing inclusive programs and accessibility resources designed to serve diverse communities, with a focus on early childhood education, teens, and enrichment for audiences with complex needs.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Education Manager and the Head of Academic Services. Works closely with the Educational Resources Coordinator, Studio and Family Programs Coordinator, and Tour Programs Coordinator.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

To create welcoming environments and experiences for early learners at the museum—including updates to the “Studio A” play space for families with children five and younger, story-time programs, and offerings at Family Festivals and other largescale events.

  • To facilitate flexible gallery and studio programs for individuals with complex needs, including individuals Alzheimer’s and/or dementia, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or persistent behavioral health disorders and their care partners; other projects may include developing resources or coordinating access services for visitors who are deaf or hard-of-hearing; who have low vision or are blind; and/or who have developmental, learning, physical, or emotional disabilities.
  • To collaborate with the Educational Resources Coordinator to facilitate programs that activate teen involvement at the museum—including Kimbell Teen Council and Hangouts
  • To nurture community engagement and build relationships with underserved audiences through partnerships with local advocacy groups, selected outreach initiatives, and the Nuestro Kimbell advisory committee
  • To provide other assistance to the Education Department as assigned
