Description

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Works in collaboration with cancer center physicians and cancer center staff to provide care to patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting within the scope of practice of a nurse practitioner.
  • Act as alternate clinical supervision in the absence of same.
  • Perform procedures for which he/she is privileged to do and documents assessments, evaluations, consultation reports and progress notes within three days of visit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assesses patient status by obtaining health history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews; assessing presenting illness, risk factors, family history, psychosocial situation and performing appropriate physical exam.
  • Order appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians and clinicians, for evaluation of care.
  • Follows up with obtaining lab and diagnostic results and notifying physician of any significant results.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, and other healthcare providers to optimize patient care.

Position Requirements

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Nurse Practitioner license (NP)

ADDIIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse license with the state of Indiana.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Other certifications as required by assigned area of work (i.e., ACLS, PALS).

ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated competence in area of clinical specialization.
  • Experience in an outpatient cancer center caring for cancer patients preferred.
  • Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Push/pull patients of up to 250 lbs. in a wheeled device and for weights greater than 250 lbs. must use team assistance.
  • Sit to and from, stand at office chair.

EQUIPMENT USED: Medical office Equipment, Computer, Telephone, Printer, Fax Machine, Copy Machine

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to chemotherapy, long periods of standing, sitting, walking.
