Description

Installs, operates, and maintains equipment and facilities associated with transmission, distribution, and services of the electric utility system.

  • The work consists of varied electric system construction, repair and maintenance duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to participate in the construction, repair and maintenance of the electric utility. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of system operations.
  • Constructs, repairs and maintains electrical distribution lines.
  • Installs poles, anchors, guys, wood arms, fiberglass arms and insulators.
  • Strings conductors, taps wires, and installs transformers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, re-closers, capacitors, fault indicators, service drops and metering equipment.
  • Troubleshoots problems; locates short circuits, grounds and other sources of power failure; makes repairs.
  • Drives and operates a bucket and digger derrick truck to install transformers, poles, and guy rods.
  • Operates trenchers, jack hammers, air compressors, hand tools, grounding cables, climbing gear, blocks, ropes, metering devices, capacitors, breakers and re-closers.
  • Reads and interprets electrical schematics of systems and diagrams, maps and blueprints.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Works on energized electrical power lines in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Works at heights greater than ten feet to install equipment or connectors; climbs poles and ladders.
  • Excavates and installs underground conductors and conduits, transformers, switchgears, switching cabinets, concrete vaults and fault indicators; terminates underground conductors; utilizes equipment to locate underground faults and utilities.
  • Installs and maintains street lights, security lights, traffic lights and recreational lights.
  • Assists in constructing and wiring electrical high-voltage substations.
  • Trims trees around energized electrical power lines.
  • Performs related duties.
 
Position Requirements

Guidelines include the American Public Power Association safety manual, the ITS Red Book, the ECG specification book, the National Electric Code, locate tickets, state and local laws, and the hazardous materials handbook. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated having completed apprentice lineworker training or fully trained as a Lineworker.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Hourly Rate of Pay Competitive pay based on lineman classification ranging from $30.18 to $40.18 per hour. Also includes excellent benefit package including generous Pension Plan
