Description

The Director of Sales / Sales Manager position is responsible for the Top Line Revenue for the hotel, meeting or exceeding planned objectives for revenue, occupancy, ADR and RevPAR. In addition, the position manages all areas of sales and marketing for the hotel in accordance with the hotel franchise and Leisure Hotels standards and to gain or achieve a professional rapport within the community for the hotel. This position also must provide an exemplary disposition and performance for the fellow staff to follow. The Director of Sales supports the General Manager, Hotel Management, and Corporate and Regional Director of Sales / Marketing with duties and obligations in direct reflection of sales and marketing, for the currently employed hotel and any other hotels in the companies structure when so requested.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Profit Management

• Meets or exceeds budgeted revenue, occupancy, ADR and RevPAR for hotel

• Contributes assistance in preparation for rate establishment, sales and marketing plan and departmental budgets, which accurately reflects the hotels business plan.

• Forecasts occupancy fluctuations and directs selling activities to maximize revenue.

• Analyzes market and business mix to make any needed adjustments to marketing plan, on a continual basis to reflect market trends.

• Assists General Manager to ensure that hotel staff is trained in good sales techniques and that these techniques are regularly followed.

• Produces any and all departmental reports accurately and on a timely business, these include but are not limited to reports regarding market share analysis, top accounts usage, weekly / monthly sales summary and any other implemented sales business reports.

• Knows the hotels demand segments, sources of business for each, and can balance market segments in accordance with supply / demand.

• Knows the principal competition for each demand segment and can take advantage of the hotels relative strengths and weaknesses against each.

• Identifies and cultivates major revenue opportunities.

  • Must be able to travel to Salt Lake City and Reno to promote hotel for corporate travel

• Accurately forecasts occupancy changes based on changing market conditions (i.e., changes in supply and demand - such as fall / summer vs. winter / spring or special high event periods, new hotels)

• Translates sales & marketing plan into plans of action and implements and manages those actions towards their wanted achievement.

Guest Services

• Supports guest services as the driving philosophy of the hotel

• Demonstrates commitment to guest services by responding personally to guests needs, when so encountered.

• Believes in making every guest and potential guest satisfied.

• Supports hotel guest satisfaction measures.

• Supports hotel and company standards and contributes to the delivery of consistent guest services.

Marketing and Sales Management

• Works with General Manager and Hotel Management to reposition hotel, as and when needed.

• Contributes assistance in preparation for rate establishment, sales & marketing plan and departmental budgets, which accurately reflects the hotel's business plan.

• Translates sales & marketing plan into plans of action and implements and manages those actions towards their wanted achievement.

• Analyzes and understands competitions strengths and weaknesses in each demand segment and successfully directs marketing and sales activity against or around each.

• Assists in designing and implementing (with Hotel Management) marketing and sales plans, appropriate for hotel, including promotions to increase revenue.

• Assists in designing and coordinating (with Hotel Management) advertising, public relations, and promotional programs.

• Identifies and knows key accounts for the general market and for the hotel specifically.

• Manages daily sales activities for the hotel and is required to make a set amount of sales contacts weekly. Minimum of 54 sales contacts per week, 30 of which are to be via phone contact, 6 set appointments, and 18 outside sales cold calls.

• Actively sells roomnights and meeting facility usage through outside sales calls, telemarketing, tours, networking, etc.

• Actively markets hotel services through advertising, blitzes, direct mail campaigns, etc as established in business plan or plan of actions.

• Actively sells to in-house guests by welcoming tours, greeting and acknowledging incoming / departing guests, thanking breakfast patrons, etc.

• Actively participates in community events, service organizations, chamber and convention/visitors bureau meetings and joins any respective committees available.

• Supports General Manager, Hotel Management, and Corporate and Regional Director of Sales & Marketing with duties and obligations in direct reflection of hotel sales and marketing, for the currently employed hotel and any other hotels in the companies structure, when so requested.

Human Resources Management

• Supports a positive, cooperative work environment between staff and management.

• Ensures that all hotel employees know sales and marketing objectives and goals.

• Aids General Manager or Hotel Management in sales training of hotel employees, other peers, and subordinates.

• Helps to develop management talent by acting as a mentor for those interested in hotels, sales, and/or marketing careers.

 
Position Requirements
  • Previous sales experience, preferably in hotels.
  • An aggressive and professional individual with excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills.
  • An outgoing personality, an eye for detail and possess organizational and time management skills.
  • Proven record of independent, self-motivated work habits.
