Pay Rate $18.11/hr.  
Description

SUMMARY
Perform a variety of strenuous manual labor. May operate one or more different types of light or moderately heavy motor equipment. Do related work as assigned under direct or indirect supervision. Must be available for emergency stand-by basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.
• Perform street maintenance; repair of street surface including manual labor for other job related programs; paving, paving prep, roto-mill, and working with hot and cold asphalt and crackseal materials.
• Clean catch basins and hand sweep streets, sidewalks, islands and approaches.
• Haul leaves, branches, dirt, debris and various other materials.
• Cut and trim bushes and brush on or near streets and alleys.
• Assist in the maintenance of retention basins.
• Operate less than 5-ton steel drum roller, leaf vacuum, crackseal machine, patch boxes and air compressors.
• Operate fork lift and other small equipment; skid steer with attachments and back hoe.
• Lift and operate 90-pound jackhammer.
• Lift and operate 120-pound plate compactor.
• Work with asphalt lute and other related tools.
• Operate and drive single and tandem axle dump truck, with or without snowplow and salt spreader attachment; pulling various trailers and attachments.
• Operate Emergency unit 211.
• Operate traffic control barricade truck.
• Operate water flushers.
• Operate oil and tack distributors.
• Clean and perform routine maintenance on all equipment such as; snow blade changes, mounting/de-mounting of Fall/Winter equipment.
• Assume responsibility for equipment and tools assigned to Equipment Operator II.
• Maintain daily reports.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assume additional responsibilities as directed or as delegated.

Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Ability to read and write.
• Six months to one year of truck driving experience necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of work-crew practices.
• Knowledge of basic safety practices and traffic rules and regulations.
• Must have the ability to perform very strenuous work in extremely adverse weather conditions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s permit and License (with Air Brake, Combination Vehicle, Tanker endorsements) within 60 days of hire, or Certification from a Truck Driving Institute with a permit.

EQUIPMENT
Shovels, brooms, rakes, asphalt lutes, hand tamps, steel pry bar, clay picks, sledge hammers and all other manual, powered, electric, pneumatic or hydraulic tools necessary to complete assignments as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk and use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee must have the ability to climb into truck beds, lift up to 120 pounds, push or pull equipment into position, and preform very strenuous physical activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job most, if not all work will be performed outdoors. Outdoor conditions range from mild to extremely adverse weather conditions and/or environment. The employee frequently works in adverse weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to loud, especially when operating power equipment.
