The Social Media Specialist will be a vital resource in growing the historic brand’s organic and paid social media efforts across multiple platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin.

The ideal candidate will have excellent writing skills to drive topical, relevant conversations on social media, working closely with U.S. News reporters and editors to craft sharp social headlines and copy for editorial content.

As a Social Media Specialist, you will work across the organization with multiple stakeholders to identify opportunities for paid social promotion and execute campaigns with exceptional ROI for product launches, content packages, events and existing premium products.

You should be comfortable leveraging analytical tools such as Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics and CrowdTangle to make informed, data-driven decisions and recommendations on organic and paid social media content. This role requires a creative and analytical thinker who has a proven track record of building new audiences on a wide array of social platforms.

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Manage existing national-facing social accounts, crafting engaging, accurate and grammatically correct social posts for U.S. News’ verticals: Money, Health, Education, Travel, Autos and News

  • Collaborate with U.S. News teams and external partners to holistically build paid strategy and campaigns

  • Develop, implement, manage and monitor paid and organic campaigns across U.S. News verticals to meet and exceed KPIs

  • Deep knowledge of paid social media tools such as Facebook Business Manager and Twitter Ads

  • Measure and assess performance of U.S. News posts on U.S. News’ social platforms to refine strategy, using audience development tools like CrowdTangle, Parse.ly and Adobe Analytics

  • Work with U.S. News editors and reporters to craft strong social headlines and discuss social presentation for U.S. News content

  • Attend editorial meetings with the vertical teams to stay abreast of upcoming coverage/packages, pitch story ideas based on audience trends and offer insight for social framing

  • Generate monthly reports on performance of U.S. News social accounts and wrap-up reports on paid campaigns

  • Identify potential areas for growth on existing U.S. News social platforms and work with members of the social media team to implement new strategies

  • Follow industry news and experiment with emerging tools and techniques

 
Position Requirements

You Should Definitately have:

  • 2+ years of paid and organic social media experience, preferably for a digital or print publication

  • A deep familiarity of social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin

  • Experience in setting up, optimizing and scaling paid social campaigns

  • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to respond quickly to trends

  • Experience using analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics and CrowdTangle to make informed decisions

  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize day-to-day tasks and long-term projects

  • Familiarity with U.S. News & World Report’s news judgement, storytelling approach and distinct voice on social media

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience


It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience reporting, writing and/or editing

  • Experience producing and editing social graphics, GIFs, video and/or photos

  • Experience growing audiences on social video platforms including YouTube and TikTok
