Director of Health

The Director of Health Services is responsible for ensuring that child health and developmental services, services for children with disabilities, child mental health, and social and emotional well-being performance standards are met in Head Start/ Early Head Start.

1. Responsible that the delivery of Head Start services are in compliance with the Health, Disabilities, and Mental Health areas of the Head Start Performance Standards.
2. Provide leadership and support to the Head Start health services team. Supervise the Health Services Coordinator, Behavior Intervention Specialists, Health Services Manager, Child Development Manager, and Social-Emotional Services Manager.
3. Provide development training to staff as deemed necessary.
4. Monitor services and provide reports documenting compliance with all standards in assigned content areas.
5. Monitor and support the development of written collaborations with community partners.
6. Monitor and support the health services team in consulting and establishing relationships with mental health, disabilities, medical, and dental providers. Secure contracts with the providers and other appropriate community organizations to provide services to children and/or families.
7. Develop and implement social service programs and partnerships that promote the ECS mission.
8. Maintain regular staff meetings with Health Services Department.
9. Meet with parents as needed.
10. Support Center staff as needed.
11. Develop and implement policies and procedures that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Child Health & Development Services.
12. Assist with the implementation of the University Practicum Student program within the Head Start programs.
13. Oversee and support the Health Services Team in providing ongoing training to support staff and teachers throughout the school year and preservice.
14. Oversee and support the Health Services Team in providing updated information and supporting documentation for the end-of-year Program Information Report (PIR).
15. Oversee and support the Health Services Team in organizing summer screening events.
16. Pursue partnerships with local community agencies to enhance health and development services.
17. Serve as a liaison between the community resources and ECS.
18. All other duties as requested to maintain the success of ECS.

  • This position reports to the Senior Director of Comprehensive Services
Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Health Administration or related field; Masters preferred
  • 5-7 years related experience including case management
  • 3-5 years supervisory or management experience preferred


  • Knowledge of social services and community resources to link families with appropriate agencies and services
  • Ability to motivate people to high levels of commitment and performance
  • Ability to mentor, train, and counsel effectively
  • Ability to work with other employees and the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and emotional maturity in crisis and in normal situation
  • Commitment to strengthen families but with ultimate commitment to the well-being of the child.
  • Ability to perform with little direct supervision
  • Knowledge of applicable safety and abuse-reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products at an intermediate to advanced level
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records and prepare reports
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced environment


  • Valid driver’s license


  • Works in an office setting
  • Local travel to multiple sites is required
  • Some out of town travel, including nights and weekends required

About the Organization Episcopal Children's Services is a recognized leader in early childhood education serving more than 50,000 children and their families in seven counties in Northeast Florida - Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St John's. In addition, ECS recently became the new Head Start/Early Head Start grantee in Marion, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lake, Levy, and Citrus counties and the Early Head Start grantee in Gainesville. As a result, we now serve another 1,500 children and their families in these areas.
