The Senior Director of Education Strategy and Development, based in Washington, DC, will be responsible for building and implementing a comprehensive expansion strategy for the Education vertical. This includes formulating business objectives, developing forecast models, evaluating competition, risks, and ultimately executing on business opportunities.

This role requires candidates with extensive experience in the education industry, ranging from traditional education solutions to new, nontraditional options, as well as knowledge in EdTech. Candidates must be a proven leader with fast-paced entrepreneurial skills and a willingness to roll up their sleeves to grow the business rapidly. Thinking like an entrepreneur, while never losing sight of our brand, is critical for success.

Are you up to the challenge?

  • Lead the effort to define and implement a long-term expansion strategy for the Education vertical. Develop and execute a plan that includes a comprehensive analysis of high-growth opportunities and recommendations, backed by rigorous data and analysis.

  • Design objectives and work plans to execute on key revenue goals.

  • Lead the go-to-market strategy and execution for growth opportunities.

  • Analyze new opportunities and collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate into existing products and business units while creating long-term models to assess ROI.

  • Gain buy-in by presenting business plans to management, refining where needed.

  • Ensure U.S. News is well-positioned to play a dominant role in the ever-changing education landscape and that U.S. News is maximizing its value and brand appropriately.

  • Develop new, long-term partnerships and work with Legal, Finance, and other stakeholders to negotiate favorable terms that provide lasting value to the organization.

  • Rely heavily on analytics and data to make decisions across the business. Constantly be measuring and optimizing.

 
Position Requirements

You should definitely have:

  • 10+ years of experience in the digital consumer education space

  • An extensive understanding of the various education and training programs available to consumers today, coupled with equally adept knowledge of the education B2B marketplace.

  • Experience sourcing and executing on strategic partnerships to build businesses and drive revenue. Track record of developing these into long-standing, mutually rewarding partnerships.

  • Strong analytical and modeling skills. Capable of analyzing and distilling complex information, drawing out relevant insights and implications that impact the business.

  • Proven success in creating and executing against a vision

  • Experience in performance marketing and demand generation

  • Knowledge and experience with first-party user data

  • Able to work independently while also quickly building relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels, including the ability to lead by influence instead of authority.

  • Willingness and comfort in challenging the business at all levels

  • Undergraduate degree in business or a related field.

  • Master’s Degree in business or a related field.

  • Prior experience in an education startup

  • This position will lead the efforts to create a long-term vision and strategy for a massive expansion in the education franchise. We are searching for candidates who can demonstrate extreme knowledge in the education marketplace, along with a proven track record in building and growing highly profitable digital enterprises. Candidates must be comfortable bootstrapping opportunities in the early phase, but capable of developing enterprises that scale quickly and efficiently.

  • This position will have a direct line to senior management. Success will be measured based on speed to market, ROI, and overall value generated that supports the broader organization.

  • This role will require being actively engaged in the education marketplace. Become the in-house expert on the education space, understanding, and monitoring the competitor’s strengths and weaknesses.
