We provide support services and advocacy to 400 adults and children and their families in Harford and Cecil Counties. The Arc supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to create lives that mirror yours and mine: students attending neighborhood schools, adults going to work and living in their own homes, and individuals enjoying the social and recreational opportunities in their communities. We are a private, non-profit local chapter of The Arc of Maryland and The Arc of The United States, the largest volunteer organization in the world devoted exclusively to improving the quality of life for all adults and children with developmental disabilities.

Position Summary:

The Culture and Retention Specialist will be responsible for promoting the mission and ensuring the happiness and retention of Agency’s team members. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that employees have an awesome employment experience while fulfilling the Agency mission. They will act as an advocate for the culture (Mission Drive, Teamwork, Accountability, and Innovation) and ensure respect and collaboration is incorporated into the daily work throughout the agency. They will be the first point of contact for anyone that has questions, concerns, or suggestions about working at the Arc NCR. They will assist team members in the understanding and interpreting Human Resources and agency policies and procedures; advise leadership in ways to maintain and improve the employee morale and overall satisfaction within their teams; assist in the investigations related to Human Resources or other employment matters. They will actively listen to the employees and work with the Leadership team to address concerns and implement new retention strategies.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

In a manner consistent with supporting The Arc NCR Mission Statement the Culture and Retention Specialist shall do the following:

Quality Support

  • Works with other members of the Human Resources and leadership team to promote the agency’s mission; Suggests collaborative activities for the staff, leadership and those supported to participate, promoting the number one reason why people stay with the Agency—the mission and the people we support.

Quality Team Members

  • Acts as the Human Resources first point of contact for all employees’ questions and concerns.
  • Acts as the Human Resources conduit for communication – Team Announcements, Text Alerts, Policy Changes, other general Agency changes/news
  • Collaborating with the Human Resources Manager, conducts investigations of employees for disciplinary matters, writes reports regarding investigations and makes discipline recommendation in consultation with the Sr. Director of Human Resources.
  • Partners with the Quality Enhancement department with investigations as it pertains to employees involving the supported individuals.
  • Leads the Recognition programs and Fun Events throughout the organization:
    • Monthly Leadership Recognition & Shining Stars
    • Quarterly Recognition Ceremonies
    • Fun Event Coordination, ensuring all employees feel welcome and invited to attend
  • Acts as the mediator for all internal employee mediations.
  • Assists, discusses with, and advises the Director of Human Resources on general employee issues.
  • Advises leadership on the proper procedure in handling employee relations matters.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the grievance process.
  • Acts as a mentor and collaborator with leadership and employees.
  • Executes the 90 days new employee Check-ins, exit interviews for all resigning employees and Orientation Survey; provides feedback to the proper leadership team and works with appropriate parties to address any concerns or suggestions presented.
  • Organizes, conducts, and analyzes the Employee satisfaction Survey; provides feedback to the HR Director and leadership
  • Conducts the Orientation Opening Training and acts as a back-up for other orientation training for the Director of Human Resources.
  • Participates in the selection of new employees and participates in interviews as necessary.
  • Assists and provides feedback to the Training and Development Coordinator on training and on boarding strategies based on feedback.
  • In collaboration with the Benefits and Compliance Coordinator, promote and manages the Agency’s Wellness Program
  • Attends all Team/House Meetings, with the main purpose to communicate and build relationships with the team.
  • Is the primary contact for the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Assists the Sr. Director of HR with the Performance Review and Supervision Processes

 

Financial Excellence

  • Is the first point of contact for all external requests for employment information.
  • In partnership with the Benefits and Compliance Coordinator, ensures all employment files are managed and handled properly through the life cycle of an employee.
  • Acts in the capacity of a back-up to the Benefits and Compliance Coordinator in the processing of Workman’s Compensation claims.
  • Stays current on all federal, state and local laws and with partnership with the Director of Human Resources, ensure all policies are in compliance.
  • Tracks all employee automobile insurance, and in partnership with the MVA, works with the leadership and employees to ensure compliance to the drivers requirements of the agency.
