The Academy is looking for an experienced publicity professional to serve as Publicity Manager. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Communications, you will work with the current team as well as the Marketing, Digital Media, Sponsorship and Creative teams, the Publicity Manager will collaborate with senior leadership to help implement communications initiatives on the Oscars, Academy Foundation events, public programming, membership engagement and internal/external outreach and communication

This role is essential in developing effective strategies, campaigns and executions resulting in positive media placement (print, electronic and digital) for multiple Academy initiatives. The workload will vary, but this position will juggle multiple projects and take on additional tasks as required. You will take direction and have excellent follow up and interpersonal skills as well as attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive and initiate communications projects at the direction of key stakeholders.
  • Execute press relations and internal/external communications.
  • Write and develop communications campaigns, talking points and other outreach materials.
  • Project manage multiple interdepartmental projects.
  • Sustain strong media contacts with national and local print, broadcast and online outlets.
  • Build/maintain strong relationships with internal departments including Academy Membership, Academy Foundation, Academy Film Archive and Margaret Herrick Library to help promote projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate media interest in the Academy, Academy Foundation and the Oscars, ensuring regular contact with target media and appropriate response to media requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years general management experience in public relations for entertainment.
  • Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage edits and input from various sources diplomatically.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to collaborate, manage, influence and engage.
