Oral History Projects Collections Intern - Fall 2020 (Academy Gold) 

Description

The Academy’s Oral History Projects department is seeking an organized and enthusiastic Intern to assist and support the Oral History Projects department with a large preservation and access initiative focused on oral history interviews with notable filmmakers. The internship will focus on preparing audiovisual interviews that have been deposited at the Academy’s Film Archive for future access by scholars, researchers, curators, and the general public.

 

Under the guidance of the Senior Archivist, Oral History Projects, you will focus on collections research and processing, data entry and inventorying, and generating reports regarding the content and scope of archival collections. You will also conduct research focused on the lives and careers of the filmmakers documented in the collections and provide input on the development of an Oral History Digital Archive project. This Internship offers the opportunity to learn the functional and operational aspects of an archival oral history initiative.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Archivist with assessing and processing collections.
  • Inventory and process legacy records (paper & electronic).
  • Write interview summaries, abstracts and bios, and collection profiles.
  • Gather data and reporting statistics about archival collections and content.
 
Position Requirements

 

  • Undergraduate (junior or senior) or community college film student with a strong interest in moving image archival studies or library science with a focus on audiovisual archives.
  • Live in or attend college in Los Angeles County.
  • Availability to fulfill 400 paid hours over the course of twelve weeks.
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of international film history.
  • Prior experience or strong interest in learning cataloging/ file management and data entry.
  • Familiarity with spreadsheets (including Excel and Google Docs) and the ability/interest to learn new software quickly.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and solve problems as they arise.

 

This internship is part of the LA County Arts Internship Program, which provides undergraduate students with meaningful on-the-job training and experience working in nonprofit arts organizations.
