Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for leading and managing the overall operations of Ingleside Communities nursing department. He/She plans, organizes, staffs, directs, analyzes and evaluates nursing services ensuring the highest degree of resident care consistent with company and regulatory standards. The Director of Nursing assumes the responsibilities of daily operations of the facility in the absence of the Administrator.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  • Current state of Wisconsin licensure as a Registered Nurse in good standing
  • 2 Years experience as Director of Nursing in a Long-Term Care facility
  • 3 years experience as a Nurse in long-term care
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that promote effective communication in all interactions
  • Ability to relate professionally and positively with employees and clients
  • Ability to complete multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must be English literate and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

Essential Functions of the Job:

  1. Provides nursing leadership for staff, department heads, and medical director to formulate operational strategies and achieve facility objectives within planned budgets and schedules. Provides direction to the Interdisciplinary Team to execute tasks necessary to implement operational objectives.
  2. Possess current working knowledge and ability to apply standards of professional practice in long-term care situations. Develops facility policies and procedures that reflect current clinical practice, professional standards, state law and federal requirements of participation. Establishes criteria, systems, tools, and follow-up to assure that resident care services provided meet established standards of quality.
  3. Demonstrated competency in physical, behavioral and functional capacity assessment of long-term care residents.
  4. Demonstrates sufficient organizational and interpersonal skills to successfully assign, motivate staff, elicit work output, improve quality and interact effectively with residents, families, interdisciplinary team members, administration, government officials, consultants and others in addition to staff.
  5. Exhibits excellent communication skills. Expresses self clearly in verbal and written communication. Communicates effectively with staff members, other professional staff, government and community agents, and residents and their families to achieve positive outcomes.
  6. In coordination with the Administrator, develops, revises, monitors and implements the nursing department budget to promote appropriate utilization of resources. Oversees and adjusts the staffing hours based on acuity, census, and established staffing patterns.
  7. Possess sufficient knowledge of personnel policies and performs personnel functions satisfactorily, including interviewing prospective staff members, conducting performance evaluations, and carrying out progressive disciplinary actions as appropriate. Applies personnel policies to facts concerning job actions impartially.
  8. Possess current knowledge of clinic practice, regulations and principles of adult education to supervise the continuing education and training of nursing personnel.
  9. Fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement. Develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing department quality assurance program.
  10. Develops and maintains policies and procedures to promote compliance with all state and federal regulations and nursing standards. Stays current with upcoming regulatory changes.
  11. Serves as a nursing liaison with other departments, Medical Director and resident/families. Serves as a liaison with Wisconsin Illinois Senior Housing Inc., community groups, general public, and other health care providers.
  12. Proficiency in computer data entry and retrieval.
  13. Carries out all duties in accordance with the facility mission and philosophy.
