Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas and UC BerkeleyCOVID-19 Farmworkers StudySpanish-Speaking Phlebotomist/Research AssistantDescription: Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas and researchers at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health are conducting a study of COVID-19 transmission among Salinas Valley agricultural workers.We are currently seeking Spanish-speaking licensed phlebotomists or other health professionals with the training and experience to conduct venipuncture who we will also train as Research Assistants. The Phlebotomist/Research Assistant will work on-site at Clinica de Salud COVID-19 testing sites throughout Salinas Valley (principally Salinas and Greenfield). The ideal candidate for this position will be a fully-bilingual (Spanish/English) a fast-paced work environment and is very comfortable with computer technology. They will be a detail-oriented problem solver who is outgoing and welcoming. Please note: Phlebotomists/Research Assistants will be provided full personal protective equipment and will work with both COVID-negative and COVID-positive patients.
.Job tasks:The Phlebotomist/Research Assistant will, Explain the purpose and goals of the study to patients and obtain their informed consent¸ Measure participant‚ height and weight, Collect blood samples using standard venipuncture procedures, Collect saliva samples, Collect, record, and store confidential contact information, Help participants scheduling and interview appointment, Distribute incentives coupons to participants and keep complete and accurate logs of all such transactions, Use Microsoft Access to track status of study visits, Conduct regular and routine light maintenance of the tools and equipment used for assessments Work collaboratively with other members of the research team
Medical assistants with certification for drawing blood.
The Phlebotomist/Research Assistant may also be asked to Label, pack, and ship biological samples to an external laboratory, Transport samples to a field lab in SalinasClinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas and UC Berkeley COVID-19 Farmworkers Study.
Required Skills, Fully bilingual Spanish-English, Licensed in phlebotomy, or has the medical background to conduct phlebotomy, Experience using database programs like Microsoft Access, Excellent interpersonal skills, Excellent multi-tasking and problem solving skills, Ability to independently manage and prioritize tasks with the study goals in mind and minimal supervision, Experience working with a Latino farmworker population.
Preferred Skills forward to interviewing anyone who has all the required skills above. Experience working in a medical clinic Experience in public health or social science research
HoursThis is a full-time temporary position which we expect to end by November 2020. It will require afternoon and evening work hours, approximately 11am to 7pm Monday-Thursday, with the possibility for extra or different hours as the project progresses.
