The Arc supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to create lives that mirror yours and mine: students attending neighborhood schools, adults going to work and living in their own homes, and individuals enjoying the social and recreational opportunities in their communities. We are a private, non-profit local chapter of The Arc of Maryland and The Arc of The United States, the largest volunteer organization in the world devoted exclusively to improving the quality of life for all adults and children with developmental disabilities.

Position Summary:

The Training and Development Coordinator will be responsible for delivering, monitoring and executing training and development programs and retention strategies for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) departments and support The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region’s mission. As a member of the Human Resources Team they will also be responsible for supporting the roles and functions of other team members.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

In a manner consistent with supporting The Arc NCR Mission Statement the Training and Development Coordinator shall do the following:

Quality Support

  • Represent The Arc NCR in the greater provider community through active participation in the Maryland Association of Community Services Training Group.
  • Identifies research and replicate benchmark practices of other service providers that would enhance The Arc NCR practices.

Quality Team Members

  • Coordinates The Arc NCR’s peer training program to ensure proper training of the “hands-on” portion of the onboarding and training; including selecting, training and following up with peer trainers and department supervisors.
  • Organizes and facilitates train-the-trainer sessions.
  • Reviews peer training checklists and regularly gives feedback to peer trainers and supervisors around areas of improvement needed.
  • Follows-up with any new hires at the two (2) week, 30 and 60 day mark of employment to ensure training completion and full acclimation to the agency, department, and team culture.
  • Works with Human Resources Manager to follow up with peer trainers and supervisors on any open ended onboarding, training or culture acclimation gaps at the 90 day status mark.
  • Manages agency Learning Management System (LMS) and organizes all training plans, presentations and materials.
  • Works with Human Resources Director to select LMS training courses and creates course clusters that best support the DSP Training and Development Program.
  • Monitor the training status of all employees and communicate effectively to employees and supervisors to ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Monitor and process grade levels earned by employees on a quarterly basis.
  • Champion the development of the profession of Direct Support by administrating the Direct Support Training and Development Program and The Arc NCR Tuition Assistance Program.
  • Develops plans, communicates, follows-up, and tracks feedback for all DSP culture events.
  • Assists Human Resources Director in developing and facilitating leadership training programs.
  • Reviews turnover trends and training feedback with Human Resources Director and makes necessary changes to training programs to ensure continuous improvement of training programs.
  • Works with the Human Resources Director and other Agency Directors to ensure every employee has a working Individual Development Plan (IDP); has IDP review sessions with each employee once a year.
  • Works with local colleges to develop trainings and course loads appropriate for The Arc NCR DSP’s training and development program.
  • Act as a resource and partner to other members of The Arc NCR Administrative Support Professional team.

Financial Excellence

  • Manages the Human Resources training and culture budget.
