GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Ensure that education and early childhood development performance standards are met in Head Start/ Early Head Start. Provide training and support to the Head Start education staff by planning and coordinating programmatic support, curriculum support, and training which will ensure that Head Start / Early Head Start is implemented through quality programs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure that all Head Start / Early Head Start programs meet the educational and performance standards set forth by Head Start, DCF, APPLE and ECS.
  2. Assist in administering the regional training plan for Head Start / Early Head. Such training shall be high-quality, sustained, intensive, and classroom-focused in order to have a positive and lasting impact on classroom instruction and the teacher's performance in the classroom, and regularly evaluated by the program for effectiveness. This includes meeting CLASS and ITRC agency goals.
  3. Provide direction & leadership to the Early Learning Specialists, including giving specific feedback, demonstrations of expectations, and constructive suggestion for increasing the effectiveness of in-class coaching and trainings.
  4. Provide in-class coaching to assigned teachers.
  5. Create, help implement, and oversee a training plan for teachers based on classroom assessment results and child outcomes.
  6. Assist in the accreditation process for all Head Start/Early Head Start sites. Provide support/follow-up as needed.
  7. Provide training, as needed, to interns working in ECS classrooms.
  8. Stay current in the areas of child assessment and screening in order to inform instruction.
  9. Monitors program quality and effectiveness through field observations, regular meetings with Education staff, and review of reports and documentation.
  10. Review and update Head Start / Early Head Start Policies & Procedures, Work Plan, etc. as needed.
  11. Stay current in the field of early childhood education through research, current literature, and attending workshops and conferences.
  12. All other duties as requested to maintain the success of ECS.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

  • This position reports to the Director of Education.
 
Position Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education
  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in education that includes ages K through 6, with 15 credit hours in early childhood education courses, and at least 480 hours experience teaching preschool-age children
  • A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field with 45 credit hours in early childhood education courses, with at least 480 hours of early education teaching experience
  • CLASS experience required with CLASS certification preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and ability to articulate, demonstrate and train others concerning current practices in early childhood education.
  • Knowledge of CLASS, ITRCC, and best practices in the field of Early Childhood Education
  • Knowledge of governmental and educational standards set forth by DCF, NAEYC, APPLE, Head Start, ECS and any other agency to which the agency commits
  • Ability to articulate and demonstrate expertise in current practices in early childhood education.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to present information and ideas to large groups of people.
  • Maintain strong commitment to needs of children and goals of ECS
  • Ability to plan and organize work as well as maintain records and prepare reports
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, i.e., Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of program evaluation methods and processes
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Ability to work with other employees and the public in a tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Ability to motivate people to high levels of commitment and performance
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in fast-paced environment

LICENSES, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • CLASS certification
  • Complete 15 hours of in-service / professional development training hours each fiscal year (July-June).

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Works in an office setting
  • Daily local travel to multiple sites is required
  • Some out of town travel, including nights and weekends required

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

In addition, ECS recently became the new Head Start/Early Head Start grantee in Marion, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lake, Levy, and Citrus counties and the Early Head Start grantee in Gainesville. As a result, we now serve another 1,500 children and their families in these areas.
