Genesis Behavioral Services, sister company of Horizon Healthcare, is currently recruiting for a full-time Substance Use Disoder (SUD) Counselor to work at

New Lisbon Correctional Institution -2000 Progress Rd, New Lisbon, WI 53950

Genesis Bahavioral Services, Inc ., sister company of Horizon Healthcare and Matt Talbot Recovery Services, is seeking regular, Full-Time, licensed Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) Counselors to provide individual and group counseling, case management, and supervision to inmates at the specified Department of Corrections (DOC) location(s) listed below.

The DOC AODA program's mission is to provide offenders incarcerated at DAI or DCC with the opportunity to gain the personal resources needed to return to the community, to successfully complete parole/extended supervision, and to remain crime and chemical free. The manner of this program is designed so that participants may successfully complete all components in a minimum of 16 weeks. Program components are structured around discipline and rehabilitative programming using a cognitive-based approach.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Screen and assess the need for and type of programming that would most effectively address individual substance abuse treatment needs
  • Provide group and/or other individual treatment for offenders that focuses on promoting abstinence from mood-altering chemicals and recovery from addiction, and positive lifestyle changes to avoid further legal difficulties
  • Understand their role and fully participate as an integral part of the professional treatment team
  • Be mindful of the ethics, boundary, power and control issues unique to correctional substance abuse programs
  • Establish rapport with inmates
  • Provide information as to the purpose of substance abuse and mental health recovery models
  • Provide assessment of core treatment needs and develop an individualized treatment plan
  • Set mutually acceptable boundaries with inmates
  • Be well-informed about trauma, and explore with service recipients their experience and support these individuals in getting appropriate resources to help
  • Assist each resident in the development of their own relapse/recidivism prevention plan

Qualifications & Requirements

  • A Criminal Background Check may be required for this position subject to Wisconsin law
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum six (6) months experience providing counseling and/or case management to AODA and mental health consumers
  • Minimum six (6) months experience delivering services to individuals from various racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as individuals with a disability
  • Active Substance Abuse Counselor-In-Training (SAC-IT), Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC), or Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) license in the State of Wisconsin
  • Group facilitation or co-facilitation training and experience
  • Basic knowledge of how to assist service recipients with locating local community resources (employment, housing, health, peer-delivered services, including 12-step groups, etc...
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing, cognitive interventions, and other Cognitive-Based Therapy (CBT) counseling theory
  • Ability to work in a correctional environment with diverse inmate population

Position Requirements

Requirements:

  1. Associates Degree in a Criminal Justice or Human Services related field.
  2. Licensed by the State of WI as a Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC-IT, SAC, or CSAC)
  3. One (1) year experience counseling correctional clients utilizing cognitive behavioral methodology.
  4. Trained in Motivational Interviewing.
  5. Documented completed training in an AODA curriculum within the past three (3) years.
