Randleman is located in the heart of North Carolina - just twenty minutes south of Greensboro and an hour and fifteen minute drive to either Raleigh or Charlotte. After the completion of new interstate 74, Randleman is in a prime position to take advantage of future growth opportunities. Randleman's roots can be traced back to the early textile mills that grew up along the Deep River. Today, the City of Randleman is home to a mix of old and new industries, along with a variety of commercial, retail, and residential areas. Joint efforts of the City and the business community have produced a revitalized downtown and the creation of a community space used for all kinds of festivals and events. This partnership continues with a focus on renovating parks and working to connect citizens back to the scenic river that runs through the City.


Randleman, population 4,189, is well-poised for a future that is expected to bring new opportunities and a continued high quality of life to its residents. Multiple major capital projects will be occurring over the next ten years, including many infrastructure projects as growth is anticipated through the 311 corridor and future development of the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite. Specific projects include utilities system repair and improvement such as implementing a remote reading for water meters. Water is delivered through intragovernmental utility services. Collection, distribution, and line maintenance are responsibilities of the City. Sewer system needs are present and in the next few years the City will need to make some long term strategic capital plans and commitments. The City of Randleman has a FY 2020-2021general fund budget of $6,569,200 and a water and sewer fund budget of $2,705,000 for a total budget of approximately 9.3 million dollars. Services are delivered by 65 full-time employees in the departments of Administration, Fire, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Zoning, Police, Public Works, Library, and Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Randleman has a stable board with the incumbent Mayor re-elected in November 2017. In November 2019, two aldermen were re-elected to a second term while another was elected to a first term. The other two seats are up for election in 2021.

The next City Manager is expected to be a leader. The City enjoys seasoned and professional department heads and is also in good financial condition. Therefore, the City seeks a candidate with demonstrated skills in team leadership, superior interpersonal management, and project management skills. The Board appreciates a candid communicator of independent thought as an advocate of the community. The next City Manager should be familiar with concepts of growth management especially related to road system improvements and utilities improvements. A focus of future attention will be attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses through advocacy and understanding of the business environment. Specific areas of business expansion include hospitality and restaurants. The City has a strong relationship with two Chambers of Commerce. The next City Manager will understand the nuances of small town living and will preferably have experience managing in a small town environment. Community visibility and availability to the citizens of Randleman is of paramount importance.


Educational/Experience:


Requirements: The basic desired qualifications include a bachelor's degree in public administration or a related field. A candidate may distinguish themselves with a master degree. The City seeks an experienced public administrator with five (5) years of progressive experience, preferably in NC municipal administration, including planning and directing the delivery of public services. The City places an emphasis on the Manager being a member of the ICMA and/or NCCCMA. The Board supports and encourages the Manager to be or become an ICMA credentialed manager within a reasonable period of being employed. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess grant writing experience.


Randleman is great place to work and play and the Board of Alderman expect the City Manager to reside in Randleman but arrangements and timing are negotiable.


Salary: The salary for this position is negotiable based upon the candidate's qualifications and experience. The anticipated starting salary is between $65,000 and $85,000, and is supplemented by an excellent benefit package.
