Purpose of Division:

Finance is a department under the Office of the CFO and is supervised by the Senior Vice President, Controller. Its mission is to provide dependable, responsive financial services and accurate financial information in a customer-oriented and efficient manner. In doing so, our board of directors, along with internal and external customers and members of the NeighborWorks network, are satisfied knowing that the assets and resources entrusted to us by federal taxpayers and numerous supporters in the private sector are properly safeguarded.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Lead Staff Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze and process financial information, contribute to the production of accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. This position performs finance related duties in the areas of bank reconciliation and general ledger maintenance and maintenance of internal and external filing systems.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the online daily review of all corporate cash transactions through Bank of America CashPro as well as the monthly reconciliation of complex corporate bank accounts which include corporate operating, A/P disbursement, Payroll, Investment, publications and subscriptions, and reimbursement accounts.
  • Assisting with General Ledger data entry as required and allowed by internal control. Assist with month-end and year end close. Assist with annual external and internal audits by providing timely requests. Work with Procurement in preparing timely purchase card allocations each month.
  • Reviewing transactions posted to revenue and expense accounts for accuracy and completeness on a monthly basis.
  • Preparing account reconciliations and financial reports for analysis and maintaining support schedule.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field is required.

(b) Experience: A minimum of five (5) years’ as a staff accountant. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working with a financial accounting systems/ (NetSuite preferred).

(c) Licenses, Certifications: CPA preferable

(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of automated accounting systems to resolve problems or recommend improvements, analyze and summarize accounting data, perform reconciliations, and prepare financial statements.

General knowledge of the accounting principles and practices of financial administration. Demonstrated ability to extract, manipulate, analyze data, and run reports from databases.

Strong interpersonal/customer service skills for communication and collaboration with internal staff and consultants. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Aptitude to clarify assigned tasks and expectations and then work independently to complete assignments.

(f) Technology: Advanced Excel skills focused on data manipulation using VLookup, pivot tables, slicers, etc. Knowledge of large, complex ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, NetSuite, or JD Edwards is required.
