STR seeks a flexible, entrepreneurial individual to support graphic design work. This full-time position is located at STR’s Woburn office and will support technical staff across the company’s four divisions, reporting into the Systems Development Division.

One of the most important things that our company does is produce high quality technical communication. We have a diverse technical staff that come up with brilliant ideas, architectures and concepts. We are hoping that you are willing to a be their partner, understand what they are trying to communicate, and then use visual mediums and design to help them do this. This is an opportunity to flex your creativity and help the team see ideas in a new light. We have ample opportunity, but they won’t always come knocking at your door, so the ability to seek out need and develop personal relationships is a huge plus.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing clear, high-quality visual representations of scientific concepts, data flows, system architectures and technical results in collaboration with scientists and engineers. The candidate will establish and maintain strong working relationships through interactions with technical leads, program managers, and senior business development staff.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with engineers and scientists to convey complex technical ideas in concise and clear presentations, visual displays and documentation that is consistent with STR’s brand.
  • Ensure that figures and graphics in proposals, white papers, briefings and reports are easily understood by our customers and partners. We need an independent perspective.
  • Creatively describe content in an effective manner to technical and non-technical audience through visual media.
  • Proactively reach out to staff across the organization to offer support at specific milestones such as new hire orientations, program kickoffs, and when new proposal activities are initiated
  • Through high-value-add support and building relationships, become an integral member of program teams with the goal of developing a basic level of ongoing tasking, such as for quarterly program reviews.
  • Collaborate with STR’s proposal coordinator to maintain STR’s templates and standard set of figures (e.g., schedule, organization chart, risk tables).
  • Possible collaboration with Human Resources and the Chief Strategy Officer to develop recruiting materials such as banners, flyers, and posters.
 
Position Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in using an array of graphic arts tools: Adobe Creative Cloud -- Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dimension. Some 3D experience is a plus
  • Strong skills and familiarity with advanced functions in Microsoft Office 365
  • Able to articulate your opinions and perspective especially when different from others; engage on the technical merits of various options.
  • Ability to work quickly to meet deadlines. Most requests are provided with <48 hours notice, and occasionally turnaround within a matter of hours will be requested
  • Balance your workload and prioritization of tasks across a number of short-duration, one-time occurrences alongside set of lower-urgency projects (typical duration 1-4 weeks).
  • Ability to track the time you spend on each task and accurately charge billable hours across different projects
  • Prior work in a technical field and/or within the Department of Defense a plus
  • Secret clearance is preferred, needs to be US person and eligible for a security clearance.
  • A portfolio of prior work that captures your design aesthetic and range of interests.
