Schedule: Monday through Friday, 10:30 am - 7:00 pm Occasional night and weekend work may be required as job duties demand; hours are flexible to meet the needs of individuals supported. Summary/Objective The Behavior Support Specialist assesses, develops, evaluates, modifies, and implements specific programming for residents in need of behavior support by providing direction and training for employees in implementing the programs. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Planning and development of the Individuals Person-Centered Plan, Assessment Goals, and Behavioral/Crisis Plan as it relates to IAB positive culture initiative in assigned ICF homes. Provides training/modeling for IAB staff as assigned on the implementation of behavior support strategies. Participates in Individual Service Plans (ISP) meetings. Coordinates the development and implementation of behavior support services with day program personnel as required. Serves as a resource and provides technical assistance and in-service training programs for employees, parents, and significant others. Coordination and collaboration with other programs as necessary. Daily completion of required documentation; including daily behavioral and program data, and caregiver/provider communication. Keeps the family and team members informed on progress toward achieving Service Plan goals. Prepares written records, reports, and correspondence as required. Maintains records systems to ensure compliance with all applicable standards. Functions independently within the constraints of organizational policy and procedure to assure that the clients receive the highest quality services possible from available resources. Participates in the development and staff training for the MSY programs Ensure a healthy and safe environment for both individuals and staff members implementing behavior support principles Provide technical assistance to the Human Rights Committee Assist clients with developmental disabilities in attaining the optimal level of independence Ensure legal compliance with DODD regulations, and client Individual Service Plans (ISPs) Document and report to the required entities any incidents adversely affecting the health and safety of a client Ensure standards of CQL are maintained and exceeded. As assigned, assist in the general referral, admission, and transition of persons served into and within the organization. Attend staff meetings, and other meetings, as assigned Complete all required documentation related to funding, employment or general operations Assure that proper procedures are followed in regards to consumers and their inherent rights Performs other related duties as assigned.   Position Requirements Special Skills & Requirements Must be able to communicate in English – including spoken (either face-to-face or over the phone) and in writing. Must be able to use tools and equipment as required – including pushing/pulling wheelchairs, lifting consumers with Hoyer lifts. Working knowledge of person-centered planning and person-centered supports Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with consumers and other staff. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, aggressive individuals within the facility. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must be able to lift, bend, push and pull, up to 50 lbs. Preferred Education and Experience Hold professional license or certification issued by the Ohio Board of Psychology; the State Medical Board of Ohio; or the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Hold a bachelor's or graduate-level degree from an accredited college or university. A minimum of three years of paid, full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in developing and/or implementing behavioral support and/or risk reduction strategies or plans. Three years of experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Valid Ohio Driver's License and maintains a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable. Ability to pass a background and drug screening meeting Ohio Adm. Code 5101:3-45-11 for Disqualifying Offenses.
