JOB SUMMARY
The overriding business objective for the Safety and Reliability Engineer will be to help successfully transition AES to a world-recognized leader in aircraft electrical power systems while ensuring all aspects of safety and reliability are addressed for all systems in APC, especially flight critical systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- AES Safety and Reliability Individual Contributor
The Safety and Reliability Engineer will embrace all aspects of the safety and reliability process in APC and ensure plans are in place for assigned development programs to address safety, reliability and the requirements associated with meeting customer and industry objective for flight critical and non-flight critical systems. Evidence of success includes coordination with Program Managers to ensure all applicable ARP4761 and MIL-STD-882e tasks are accounted for in the budget and schedule, performed on time and result in completion of technically sound and safe designs for Part 23/25 business and air transport aircraft, Part 27/29 helicopter aircraft, in addition to military platforms.
- ARP4761, MIL-STD-882e Expert
The objective is to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the safety process. The Safety and Reliability Engineer will keep up with industry trends and policy changes, and champion process changes as required within AES. Success criteria for this position will be successfully working with AES engineering and key customers to provide safety and reliability guidance, remaining current on industry trends and teaching others the aspects of the safety analyses, tools and overall processes.
- Certification Expert (FAA and EASA)
The Safety and Reliability Engineer will have direct experience working with FAA and EASA for the certification of flight critical systems on Part 23/25/27/29 and have a thorough understanding of the federal regulation requirements for power systems. Success criteria for this position will be proven track record for successful certification of systems through both the FAA and EASA.
- Safety and Reliability Face to the Customer
The objective is to become the face to customer when addressing safety and reliability issues, convey a high degree of confidence and become a trusted advisor and safety expert. Evidence of success includes supporting face to face customer meetings on safety and reliability, supporting teleconferences and ensuring no safety or reliability issues result in lost business or lack of customer confidence.
- Cyber Security Subject Matter Expert
Become a SME on the Cyber Security processes defined in DO-326A and DO-356. Help guide the development of internal development guidance and process updates to include the necessary steps outlined in these standards. Coordinate with other ATRO divisions to leverage cyber security experience. Coordinate across engineering disciplines to ensure safety requirements, mitigation strategies and cyber threats are addressed through analysis and design efforts. Evidence of success includes completed guidance, process updates and internal training on cyber security threats, industry guidance and internal process updates.
- Analytical
The Safety and Reliability Engineer will be capable of performing all the safety analyses in ARP4761, MIL-STD-882e, train others on best practices, and perform LRU reliability estimates. Evidence of success includes authoring safety and reliability program plans, performing analyses and documenting results.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- Requires bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least 5 years related experience, specifically in aerospace.
- Must have electronic LRU, circuit and component level FMEA, Fault Tree, and Reliability prediction experience.
- Understanding of electronic circuitry.
