Description

The Registered Nurse serves a key role in the Open Door health care team in the clinical setting. This role requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and focuses on distinct areas of responsibility: Patient Observation, Preparation/Assistance, Treatment/Response and Patient Education.  The Registered Nurse works closely with other clinical support staff to obtain and record patients’ vitals, current symptoms/condition and background health information. This role includes assuring patients’ comfort level and safety needs while working towards the best individualized care plan.  Registered Nurses should be confident in their judgment and prepared to respond to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol. The ability to make sound judgments on care needs is vital to this role. This position works triage, on phone messages and on walk-in patients. One of the most fundamental roles for the Registered Nurse is Patient Education. Open Door works hard to educate staff, patients and the community in prevention and treatment. The Registered Nurse will be in one-on-one situations where they will be expected to explain procedures and treatments to patients not only for comprehension but also to alleviate any apprehensions. Within the Open Door, registered nurses work as a team to maintain constancy and accuracy at every stage of care. California RN license required; prior experience in clinic setting preferred. Wage dependent on experience.

 
Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Triages all phone messages, refills, and information requests.
  • Conducts nursing visits including immunizations, injections, patient education, pregnancy tests, head lice checks, and medication dispensing.
  • Triages all walk-in patients or patients needing an appointment when none are available.
  • Performs follow-up calls on patient condition per clinician request.
  • Dispenses medications, per provider request.
  • Coordinates general tickler file.
  • Assists medical assistants and providers with various nursing procedures/services.
  • Assists providers in all medical emergencies such as fainting, code blues, medical reactions and other medical emergencies.
  • Assists administrative medical assistant with TAR’s, insurance authorizations, and problem solving.
  • Adherence to the ODCHC attendance policy.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as designated by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to work as a member of a team in order to communicate and/or solicit pertinent information to and from other team members and support team decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise sound and responsible judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal.  Ability to establish constructive working relationships with all levels of management and employees in a staff of varied and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent, and equitable manner.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in nursing leading to license as Registered Nurse State of California.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current RN license for State of California.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Medical Assistants.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person, at normal volumes.
  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms etc.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
