We have an exciting opportunity for a graphic designer and visual communication specialist with a solid social science research background to help us tell the stories of the impact of work in homelessness, community development, women’s and youth empowerment, environment sustainability, public health, and international development. Candidates for this position must be able to distill rigorous, data-forward statistical research findings into engaging, readily understood high impact display.

We are looking for a candidate with 2 to 4 years of experience to support federal, state, and local funded contract work. This position will work within an interdisciplinary team of communications, knowledge management, and research and evaluation professionals across a variety of client projects and will be responsible for the development of original, dynamic and appealing visual communication materials, including graphic designs, infographics, and data visualization for a variety of project deliverables and in support of corporate communication and business development activities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, good organizational skills, the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, meet tight deadlines, and work well in a team environment. Prior experience creating appealing graphics and infographics for research is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design graphics, illustrations, infographics, data visualizations, photo essays, reports, and other materials for online and print dissemination, including drafting copy text, that translates dense, technical and multi-faceted information into high-quality polished deliverables.
  • Design and format documents in collaboration with researchers, communications specialists, and subject matter experts to include written or presentation style formats.
  • Assist with formatting project deliverables including project reports, manuals, proposals, etc.
  • Revise and develop a suite of design templates for corporate and client branded deliverables in line with approved standards or requirements.
  • Develop and update marketing, and website materials: banners, marketing brochures, factsheets, and templates.
  • Maintain clear lines of communication to ensure correct understanding of activities for assigned tasks and discreetly manage client expectations.
  • Post, categorize, and update documents, photos, and other files onto websites and other knowledge management platforms, including a photo library.
 
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 2-4 years of experience in graphic design, marketing, communications, data journalism, English, or a related degree.
  • Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud Capabilities including use of platforms such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, Character Animator, and Audition a plus.
  • Familiarity with applied research and basic statistical concepts to inform translation of findings to visually appealing formats using icons, figures, charts, and other graphic techniques.
  • Able to illustrate concepts by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, font size and style, and related aesthetic concepts.
  • Familiar with creating and updating website content using platforms such as WordPress and Drapal.
  • Able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal and communication skills for an effective team environment.
  • Excellent written communications and copy-editing skills with a high attention to grammar and detail.

Preferential Skills

  • Prior experience in government consulting or working with a federal government agency, specifically USAID or HUD.
  • Prior experience developing data visualizations and developing story maps for interactive content.
  • Experience working with or developing marketing and communications products for fundraising or business development efforts.
