Purpose of Division:

NeighborWorks America through NeighborWorks Services Group provides a comprehensive spectrum of courses, consulting, networking opportunities and other support to help professionals and their organizations adopt innovations, improve performance and achieve meaningful impact. We offer organizational capacity assessments, skills-based training courses, leadership-development programs and sophisticated tools for quantifying outcomes.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Program Financial Services, the Financial Manager, Financial Services leads designated financial-related duties in the areas of financial analysis and tracking, financial reconciliation and procurement for the NeighborWorks Services Group (NWSG). Advises the Director, Program Financial Services regarding event reconciliations processes and procedures; provides recommendations for systems and process improvements; oversees the tracking and posting of events’ revenues and expenses.This work requires considerable initiative, independent judgment, collaboration with colleagues and discretion within established procedures and regulations, and a high level of attention to detail. The Financial Manager’s work will center on ensuring adherence to proper account coding procedures for all NWSG purposes, timely reconciliation and payment of event related vendors, as well as tracking and integration into the budget and financial management unit. Work is performed under the supervision and in partnership with the Director, Program Financial Services who reviews work through financial & budget reports, divisional event reconciliations and learning management system & financial data for results obtained.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Overall management and oversight of NeigborWorks financial policies and procedures in the planning, execution, and reconciliation of divisional program and service funds/resources.
  • Manages and interprets complex accounting, financial, and statistical data in support of accurate recording of revenue and expenditures and internal financial & budget to actual reports.
  • Overall management and oversight of the financial reconciliation of the division’s events, meetings, products and services in the preparation, circulation, and submission of expense allocations.
  • Main liaison between the Finance department's Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable managers to proactively report, research, monitor, and reconcile NWSG posting variances/errors.
  • Work with NWSG staff and Finance Division to ensure that program allocation, expenditure records, and accounting for all event expenses and product sales are maintained and reconciled to corporate financials.
  • Advises the Director, Program Financial Services regarding event reconciliations processes and procedures; provides recommendations for systems and process improvements; oversees the tracking and posting of events revenues and expenses.
  • Performs financial analysis and tracking of the NWSG event expenses by major program category, events, and products. Submits monthly financial analysis & status briefs to the Director, Program Financial Services, pertaining to event-related reconciliations.
  • Manages the Financial Services files and logs pertaining to Activities & Events, Reclassifications, Revenue, Airfare and Macros
  • Recommends opportunities to enhance and optimize financial processes, procedures, and controls.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Nature of Work Contacts:
NeighborWorks Services Group (NWSG) division’s staff in various business units regarding revenue and expense transactions, reconciliations and journal entry reclassifications.

NeighborWorks America staff, including Budget Managers, Finance, IT&S, and others involved with accounts receivables, accounts payable and event/vendor reconciliations.

Fiscal Responsibilities: Divisional financial analysis & oversight.

 
Position Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education:
An undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.

(b) Experience: Eight to Ten years professional experience conducting financial analysis, reconciliation, research and reporting, preferably in the non-profit or public sector.

(c) Licenses, Certifications: None.

(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Advanced financial data analytic skills and knowledge of the general accepted accounting principles and practices of financial administration. Organized and process oriented. Demonstrated ability to analyze varied and complex financial data and present results in a concise, informative, and uncomplicated manner. Demonstrated ability to problem solve, make sound judgments, and plan and meet objectives in a deadline driven environment. Proven experience effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives in a fast-paced work environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate and write clearly, succinctly, and in a manner that appeals to a wide audience (including non-financial staff). Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, as well as with people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

(f) Technology: Advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


Preferred Qualifications:
Candidate should have at least eight years of experience working with Enterprise resource planning and financial software and technology systems; as well as with reconciling large event financials with complex account coding and preparation of journal entries. Candidate should have advanced skills in MS Excel with the ability to create, modify and analyze pivot tables and pivot charts, create excel macros, understand and use advanced functions such as logical and lookup functions and create complex worksheets to facilitate reconciliation of event bills.
