About the Organization Established June 15, 1971, Valley Community Services Board is a publicly funded organization where citizens of Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta and Highland Counties can receive Behavioral Health, Substance Use and Developmental Services services. Valley Community Services Board serves as the single point of entry into publicly funded mental health, developmental, and substance use disorder services for these localities.

Valley CSB is a person-centered organization, tailoring treatment to each individual. We value competency and compassion in every service we provide. We are also a resource for educating the public about the nature of mental health, substance use, and developmental disabilities to dispel stereotypes and encourage support for individuals facing those challenges.

Valley Community Services Board is focused on providing quality, personalized behavioral health and developmental disability services with the highest levels of consumer growth and potential.

The Valley Community Services Board (VCSB) is searching for a new Executive Director. This highly visible position provides leadership, oversight and strategic planning to the delivery of behavioral health and developmental services to individuals and families residing in the City of Staunton, City of Waynesboro, Augusta County and Highland County in the state of Virginia.

The Executive Director reports to the Valley CSB Board of Directors and serves as the CSB’s Chief Executive Officer and is directly accountable and responsible to VCSB for the overall operation of the entire CSB to include budgeting, strategic planning, program evaluation, contracting, financial management, human resources, employee benefits, risk management, management information systems, training, EEO management, licensure, accreditation, all clinical services and other general management responsibilities.

Position Requirements

An undergraduate degree in social work, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or another human services-related field or in business, public, hospital, or health care administration or another management-related field. Comparable related experience may substitute for education. Graduate degree in social work, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or another human services-related field or in business, public, hospital, or health care administration or another management-related field is preferred.

Considerable experience in leading public or private organizations with functions and responsibilities that are similar or comparable to a CSB, including experience at smaller similar or comparable organizations or smaller units in larger organizations. Extensive experience in the above-mentioned areas is preferred.

Some experience in reporting directly to a board of directors or other governing body structure that has policy, operational, and fiduciary authority and responsibilities or to the person who reports to the board of directors. Considerable experience in reporting directly to a board of directors composed of citizen members that has policy, operational, and fiduciary authority and responsibilities and hires its executive director who serves at the pleasure of the board is preferred.

Some experience in working with a broad range of constituents, including individuals receiving services, family members, and advocacy groups in the mental health, developmental, or substance use disorder services or a similar or related human services field.

Some experience in implementing high performance organization or similar organizational leadership development approaches is preferred.

Some experience with applying the concepts of recovery, empowerment, self-determination, or person-centered planning in mental health, developmental, or substance use disorder services is preferred.

 
Salary Information Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience. The VCSB is a member employer of the Virginia Retirement System and provides a competitive benefits package including health insurance, paid time off, life insurance, etc.
