About the Organization Incorporated in 1985, Fountainhead Development, Inc., (FDI), specializes in property management and is the largest privately owned hotelier in Alaska. FDI owns and operates Sophie Station Suites, Wedgewood Resort and the Bear Lodge. Each of these properties offers guest accommodations, fine dining establishments and a variety of guest services. Our commercial properties include holdings in excess of 540,000 square feet of rental space, which we manage, lease and maintain. This diversified corporation is also involved in the construction industry with a year round operation developing commercial properties.


Fountainhead Development, Inc. owns and operates the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum, a collection that features over 84 American made antique automobiles and showcases the interesting heritage of the automobile during Alaska's post-Gold Rush era. Several autos are the only models of their marques known to remain.


In addition, FDI has a Wildlife Sanctuary at Wedgewood, which is a peaceful, 75-acre reserve that is home to an impressive variety of interior Alaska's wildlife. The sanctuary, a model wetlands restoration project, offers nature trails and observation decks.

Description

Position Summary: Audit and maintain record of assets & liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, and other financial activities. Establish and implement proper accounting procedures. Prepare financial reports for management.

Duties:

  • Monitor and reconcile daily cash and credit card activity
  • Complete bank reconciliations
  • Audit, reconcile and maintain integrity of general ledger accounts
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for all users
  • Set-up internal control systems and adopt proper policies for financial reporting
  • Develop system controls to ensure data integrity
  • Develop operational data documentation and troubleshooting procedures
  • Present accounting reports to management, to include communication of observations and recommendations
  • Oversee monthly and annual closing procedures
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, local, state and federal policies and directives, and current accounting standards
  • Supervise employees performing accounting duties
  • Evaluate and motivate employees
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to employees to enhance performance
  • Maintain equitable administration of company policies and procedures as they relate to all employees
  • Provide example, training and coaching regarding performance and behavior standards
  • Set and monitor work schedules
  • Complete appropriate performance documentation
  • Perform, and assist employees with, problem solving and customer relations
  • Operate automated time and attendance system to manage, approve and data enter work time and attendance information
  • Operate word processing, spreadsheet, instance messaging, company email and other software required to successfully complete the job
  • Effectively interface with other departments, including but not limited to IT, Operations, Human Resources, Payroll, Marketing, Reservations & Sales, and Construction/Maintenance
  • Prepare and provide professional oral and written communications
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, copier and facsimile; using various computer applications and software packages
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Position Requirements

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • 4-year Accounting Degree required
  • 5 years of applicable experience required, 3 of which should be in auditing
  • 2 years of supervisory experience required
  • Able to learn, understand and use multiple computer accounting systems, software and hardware, and how they interface with one another
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook) to include import and export of spreadsheet data
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, to include effectively conveying information to others, and giving full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Able to use sound judgment and make appropriate independent decisions
  • Able to manage time and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Able to motivate, develop and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job
  • Able to identify complex problems and analyze related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to perform with sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of computer keyboard; to travel to other locations; to verbally communicate to exchange information; to see and hear within a reasonable range for an office environment with or without correction.
