OVERVIEW: The Lower Elwha Child Care Cook is responsible for the planning menu and implementation of nutritional meals for the Child Care program. Promote healthy eating habits for children and staff. Work with child care staff on implementing nutritious curriculum into the classroom. The Child Care Cook monitors the food program according to the USDA requirements. This is a full-time position

SALARY LEVEL: Level 5 $13.23-$15.62 DOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Preparation of breakfast, am snack, lunch and pm snack daily using USDA nutrition requirements.
- Plan work schedule so that food production flows smoothly.
- Plan menu at least 1 month in advance and post new menu monthly.
- Adapt the menus according to specific dietary needs/allergies of individual children.
- Purchase supplies that are applicable to food preparation; keep all records of purchases, receipts, invoices, purchase orders. Turn receipts and copies into supervisor.
- Prepare weekly shopping list and purchase food from local grocery store. Cost control is important.
- Receive and put away food promptly to assure quality control.
- Must provide cold meals for field trips during summer and several times throughout the year.
- Must adhere to individual eating patterns and needs of infants and toddlers rather than an adult prescribed time schedule.
- Assist in serving USDA approved meals and snacks to children. Knowledge of proper serving sizes for infants, toddlers, preschool and school-age children. Sit with children at meal time and model healthy eating behaviors and good manners.
- Be familiar with special dietary needs (allergies) and medical issues (asthma, etc..) of children.
- Maintains standards of sanitation in the kitchen and dining area by daily cleaning and disinfecting. Cupboards, counter tops, tables, sinks and floors should remain free of food and other items at the end of the day and in accordance with the State Minimum Licensing Requirements, LECC Parent Handbook and Health Policies.
- Maintain proper storage and control of waste; keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold, proper heating and cooling of foods to prevent bacteria growth and food-borne illnesses.
- Regular scheduled cleaning of pantry area, dry storage, cupboards, refrigerators, cleaning and defrost freezers.
- Proper rotation of all food to keep foods fresh and prevent spoilage.
- Keep classroom carts clean and stocked with proper paper supplies, utensils, and age appropriate dining ware, including sippy cups or bottles as needed.
- Help plan and participate in food related learning activities in the classroom, planned to effect the selection and enjoyment of a wide variety of nutritious food, which broaden the child's food experience. Work with education staff.
- Maintain clean laundry. This involves washing, sanitizing and folding daily and properly putting away all laundry (sheets, wash cloths, bibs, etc…).
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required and one year professional cooking experience. <
