Share Email Opening Title Family Outreach Advocate - Santa Maria  Category Family Support Services   Description The Position The Family Outreach Advocate will work collaboratively with parents, school personnel, and public and private agencies to guide families in overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency. Through advocacy, case management, parent education, developmental screening, and linkage to community resources, the Family Advocate will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip parents with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome sources of stress and provide nurturing environments as well as progress towards economic stability. Services are provided in the home, school, and community setting. Working with those impacted by trauma can be fulfilling and meaningful, yet simultaneously challenging, requiring attention to one's self-self-care. FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization, actively identifying and employing methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for others and themselves. Sample of Duties and Responsibilities Exhibit a working knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referral to support access to social, educational, and health services. Serve as a liaison between the family and school to support student success in the school environment. Support parents to increase their knowledge of child development and strengthen parenting skills. Conduct program outreach and represent FSA at collaborative meetings and community events.   Position Requirements Employment Standards: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Health Service or related field is required. A minimum of four years’ work experience in the school or community providing services to at-risk children and/or families. An ability to relate warmly and professionally to students, parents, school personnel, and community organizations. Professional attitude, teamwork, and ability to maintain confidentiality a must. Will exhibit cultural competency. Will speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish fluently. Excellent analytical, computer, written and verbal communication skills required. Professional attitude, teamwork, and ability to maintain confidentiality a must. Classification, Hours and Pay Rate: Position is full-time, non-exempt, with benefits. (Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 403(b) retirement plan. Generous holiday, sick leave, and vacation also offered.)
