Description

Duties:

Foundation Construction

  • Perform foundation construction drilling duties, including but not limited to the following foundation types: Micropile, Tieback, Anchor, Soil Nail, Direct Bury.
  • Install foundation in accordance with engineering design, including but not limited to: drill set up, layout, check for plumb and measure offsets to confirm hole location.
  • Support operation of grout batch plan use in construction.
  • Install foundation type using project defined materials and in accordance with methods and procedures approved by Crux and in accordance with specifications.
  • Perform tasks using barge, track, truck-mounted, or helicopter portable drilling equipment.
  • Perform/oversee testing of foundation type in accordance with engineering and/or client specifications.
  • Perform/oversee cap installation in accordance with engineering and/or client specifications.
  • Ensure foundation site is exited in accordance with client expectations.

Geotechnical Exploration

  • Perform subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques.
  • Drilling may include: mud rotary drilling, air rotary and diamond bit coring techniques in accordance with contract specifications and/or best practice per geotechnical conditions.
  • In-situ testing techniques may include: packer testing; cone penetration testing (CPT); Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT) equipment, pressure meter and other, related apparatus in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Installation of instrumentation such as: piezometers and inclinometers in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Perform tasks using barge, track, truck-mounted, or helicopter portable drilling equipment.
  • Ensure site is exited in accordance with client expectations.

Responsible for execution of work in a safe manner, ensuring compliance of self and team regarding:

  • Safety Manual
  • Project Specific Health and Safety Plans
  • Job Safety Analysis

Ensure proper maintenance and repair of all on-site equipment and collaborates with Project Management/Foreperson any maintenance/repair needs.

Responsible for ensuring equipment on-site is operated only by qualified operators with demonstrated ability to perform tasks safely.

Maintain timely and accurate documentation regarding:

  • Daily drill reports
  • Daily timesheet
  • Daily bore hole logging
  • Daily equipment inspections
  • Critical lift plans (as applicable)
  • Daily tailboard; training and any applicable pre-task planning
  • Incident/Accident Reporting

Serve as liaison between customer’s on-site personnel and Crux for all production issues throughout the project.

Operate ancillary equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company policy/procedure:

  • Morooka Carrier
  • Rough Terrain Telehandler
  • CDL Class A Vehicle
  • Crew Truck
  • Mini-Excavator
  • Grout Batch Plant
  • Crane

Ensure site has access to required items, including but not limited to:

  • Project related documents dictating objectives, restrictions and requirements;
  • Utility Locates
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Fire tools
  • First Aid Kit, including eye-wash and any applicable materials related to project

Travel domestically 95% of the time.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to walk and carry loads of up to 100 pounds on uneven and  sloping surfaces while being exposed to weather and elements
  • Twist and or reach to accomplish daily activities
  • Regularly required to use hands to handle objects, tools or controls with proper PPE
  • Communicate effectively within potentially noisy environments
  • Must speak and understand English at a level appropriate to receive and comprehend specialized safety and training instructions in potentially noisy environments.
  • Work in remote, difficult access locations
  • Full time travel
  • Must be able to work up to 14 hour days; 7 days per week
  • Exposure to drill mud, additives, and other chemicals
 
Position Requirements
  • Applied knowledge of operation and basic maintenance of various drilling and peripheral equipment including forklifts, cranes, small craft and trucks.
  • OSHA 10 ETD within 6 months of employment
  • OSHA 30 within 6 months of employment
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 1 month of employment
  • NCCCO – ABC, ABW, STC, TLL, TSS, BTF preferred
  • Rigging/Signaling Training required within 1 month of employment
  • Prior foundation construction experience in Driller capacity preferred
  • Prior geotechnical exploration experience in Driller capacity, including instrument installation and testing
  • Experience with dual rotary drill heads and tooling setups including duplex and down-hole hammers is preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe drilling procedures, traffic control, OSHA requirements. 
  • Commercial Driver License - Class A preferred
  • State specific Drilling License preferred
