Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian 

Description

Reporting to the Senior Technical Services Librarian, the Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian performs a variety of complex, technical and specialized library functions in relationship to the acquisition of resources processed in the Technical Service department for the Margaret Herrick Library.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine acquisitions activities for books, scripts, periodicals, and digital collections.
  • Participate in department collection development program.
  • Perform auditing of current and prospective vendors to assess service and pricing, renegotiating discount/pricing structures with appropriate vendors.
  • Establish and maintains effective relationships with vendors, publishers and service providers.
  • Order and receive resources via firm order and/or approval plan.
  • Coordinate EBSCO Subscription services, including receiving and processing current subscriptions.
  • Responsible for the lifecycle of licensed electronic and print publications; coordinate serials management for all Academy group and library subscriptions, including cataloging, placing orders, receiving issues, initiating claims, maintaining holdings, preparing volumes for binding, renewing/canceling subscriptions, and generating reports.
  • Resolve complex issues involving electronic resource and print subscriptions.
  • Perform cataloging of new and donated materials.
  • Coordinate the planning, implementation and tracking of TSD digital projects.
  • Participate in professional growth and development to enhance skills and knowledge of current trends in acquisitions, collections and electronic resource management.
  • Seek opportunities to introduce new methods and technologies to improve service.
  • Supervise Library Assistants and assist in other library activities as needed.
 
Position Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
  • 3+ years of experience working with digital library collections, vendors and material budgets in an academic or special library.
  • 3+ years of experience cataloging in library databases and library systems.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and interact professionally, effectively and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to lift, push or carry 25 lb. boxes.
